I levy no blame. Sorry to hear you accept it. All I implied was that Walmart is a high volume employer.

**Edit. It is a union plant. You are correct Harvey. Union memberships ARE going down. Being you brought this to light in another thread, what do you suppose we do for these people?

What I suggest "we do for these people" is nothing. Why would the American taxpayer owe them anything?

They will be eligible for two years of nobama permanent unemployment checks, perhaps three to five years by the time new enrollees run out their benefits. They'll also be entitled to welfare, food stamps, assistance with their utility bills, and perhaps even some astonishing new handouts nobama will create specially for them.

I would guess that 95% of union members voted for nobama buying the hope and change nonsense. The rest of us who did not vote for nobama knew as well as we know the earth rotates counter clockwise causing the sun to appear to rise in the east that nobama's policies would destroy our economy, jobs, companies, and our future. We knew that what little manufacturing remains in America would be drastically harmed by him.

When personal and corporate taxes are increased and additional new financial burdens like healthcare benefits are imposed on major corporate employers, and when the epa attacks everything they produce, layoffs and plant closings are the natural result.

Retail sales have declined since nobama took office. Sales declines mean less products need to be moved by trucks on the nation's highways. Diesel prices have increased significantly, also because of nobama's policies, rising operating costs cause trucking companies to make do with old tractors as long as they can.

I'm no economist but I could go down a list of 100 things that nobama has done that contributed to the closing of the FL plant or layoffs of hundreds of employees. That's what FL union workers voted for. Perhaps they understand now.

All companies, union or otherwise, are suffering and eventually will have to endure serious cutbacks. My advice to everybody is to diversify your education and do whatever your employer says to do. I have continued to be a union member just to keep peace in the workplace but have ignored the cockey union garble for several yrs now. I know I don't 'have' to and the union will back me if I choose to buck the system..... BUT, as Frieghtliner and other huge companies are seeing: It is only a matter of time! We had 44 mechanics in my team 5 short yrs ago and now we are down to 6 doing the same job. I am proud to say that I am one of the six and all the fat-bellied union cry-babies have all but disappeared from our company. The last loser gave up a few weeks ago when our Supervisor asked him to unload a huge truck by himself. I thought the obese ******* was gonna die from wheezing! He then got cockey, secured a union steward and argued that unloading a 'truck' wasn't in his job description. . which btw, isn't. The Company AND the Union steward basically told him to pound sand!!! He ended up resigning after 33yrs of hard work:rolleyes:

Anyway, the remaining members on my team are good guys and work hard and I seriously doubt that any other members will be cut... . I hope! I know this sounds to be off topic, but in reality, unfortunately it is not. American's..... as a whole, and I mean the Obama supporting whole..... are lazy and expect something for nothing! These are the guys that should lose their jobs, not hard-working folks that support and care about their families and Country!

CLEVELAND — Workers at the Freightliner truck manufacturing plant in Cleveland are facing possible layoffs.

The company that owns Freightliner truck manufacturing began Tuesday telling employees at its plants across the country they could lose their jobs.

Daimler Trucks plant in Cleveland

Company officials held a meeting Tuesday afternoon with workers in Cleveland.

A spokesman for Portland, Ore. -based Daimler Trucks North America would not provide specifics, including the number of people who could be laid off.

The company released a statement saying it was “in the process of notifying production workers across DTNA’s North American manufacturing facilities of a potential layoff in compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. ”

The company said it would release more information Thursday.

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act requires employers to notify the state when they plan to lay off more than 500 workers or a third of their workforce. No notice was listed on the state Commerce Department website on Tuesday.

About 2,100 people work at the Cleveland plant. Another 2,900 work at Daimler plants in Gastonia and Mount Holly, according to the Gaston Gazette.

Corey Hill, president of the United Auto Workers chapter that represents workers at the Cleveland plant, said he couldn’t comment on the potential layoffs or confirm numbers because nothing has been made official.

“We just haven’t received anything. The details have to come from the front office,” he said.

If the layoffs are deep — around 700 jobs in Cleveland alone, according to reports — it would represent a stark reversal from a year ago when Daimler announced it was restarting a second shift in Cleveland and adding jobs at other plants to meet increasing demand for its products in the U. S. and elsewhere.

At a January 2012 event attended by then-Gov. Bev Perdue, Daimler announced it would add 1,100 jobs at its Cleveland plant. Previously laid-off workers would be recalled first, the company said.

Later in the year, Daimler acknowledged only half those jobs had been filled, saying projected demand for its trucks “had not materialized. ”

In September, the company announced it would close its plants for several days due to an “industry-wide slowdown in truck orders. ”

But the company sounded a more positive note earlier this month when it told the Cleveland town board the plant would start producing natural gas-powered trucks.

CLEVELAND — The company that owns Freightliner has notified the state it plans to lay off 715 employees at its local truck manufacturing plant.

The layoffs take effect April 1. They are described as temporary, meaning the company could recall the workers if business improves.

Daimler Trucks North America is also laying off 405 workers at its plant in Mount Holly, according information on the N. C. Department of Commerce website.

The Portland, Ore. -based company said earlier this week it was informing employees at its plants of potential layoffs, in compliance with federal law.

A spokesman said the company would release more information today.

At the Cleveland plant, the layoffs would shut down the second shift, which the company restarted last year. Daimler announced in January 2012 it would hire 1,100 people at the plant to meet increasing demand for its trucks in the U. S. and abroad.

The anticipated orders didn’t fully materialize, though, the company hired only about half that number, recalling 550 who’d been laid off previously.

At a meeting Tuesday, workers at the Cleveland plant were told that if orders improve, the layoffs could be avoided, according to an employee who was there.

Makes you wonder why some labor organizations want a security pledge. I wonder how long that plant has been there?
You relocate to a promising job and bet on a long term job. Then yoink.

Not much different from a plant in Ontario Ca, GE Jet Engines at Ontario Airport is closing the doors on a repair/rebuild facility. A friend of mine that hauled my water pump to our place also brought a few jet engines to Malmstrom Air Force Base near Great Falls Montana and is taking a few days off to do some maint work at our place. He has hauled their engines for years, GE said that they will relocate the Mechanics but not many can afford to get up and leave with the economy that is in Ca.

It doesn't sound fair that labor union members should have to take personal responsibility for themselves like everyone else does it Wayne?
