Question. How much friction additive do you need for a Dana 70 LSD rear axel. I am going to service one for a friend and am not sure how much to add. I will be using standard gear oil. The truck is a '97 4X4. Also, does the transfer case take only ATF? Thanks, Chris

friction modifier

I see most have recommended buying 2 (4oz I think) bottles from the stealer (aahhh dealer) and start by putting in 1 and see what it does.

The procedure I remember was to do 8 tight figure 8's and if it pops more than your liking - - Add more.

Chris, depending on what gear oil you use you may not need any friction modifier. There are some gear lubes out there that have the slippery stuff in them already. If the lube bottle says it is for a LSD then try it with none. If it doesn't say that then put a bottle at a time in until the chatter goes away. As someone already said, do a couple of figure 8's with the truck to mix the additive into the oil and to get it into the clutch packs before deciding it needs more. Remember, too much of the slippery stuff means dumping the oil and starting over.
