Fridge blows out !!!

I've put a fridge into my 3 horse slantload Sundowner as a part of the ongoing process to convert the "dressing area" into a basic camper. I had the local RV people do the hookup and venting and I have had constant problems keeping the unit lit on the road. They have put in baffles and extended the venting louvers to the max and it still doesn't stay lit. It works fine parked.

Any ideas?

I have heard of people cutting down a fiberglass furnace filter and installing the filter behind the louvered access panel.



Also, if you have recycled an older refer, my neighbor wound up installing an aftermarket "Dinasour" ignition board to solve the blowout/reignition problems on his 95/96 vintage refer.

Check the burner tube to see if there is a flue cap on it. If can look down the burner tube from the top, there isn't a flue cap and the down drafts are blowing out the flame.



I had a fridge that would run fine on LP setting still but wouldn't stay lighted more than a couple of miles down the road. The Dometic service centers installed baffles on the top vent and the side vent which didn't help. I even tried the furnace filter in the side vent which didn't work either. I finally discovered the flue cap was missing. I installed one, removed all the extra baffles, and never had a problem since.



Dometic has discontinued putting on flue caps on the late model fridges.

Thanks for the info I'll check the flue cap first then if it has one, I'll go for the furnace filter - I'll get a chance to look at this tomorrow when it stops pouring !!

I've seen where the air will travel down from the roof vent while driving and brow out the pilot on the refrig- in talking to the repair tech a few dometic refer's suffer the problem- you might try reversing the refer roof vent cap- that's what we ended up doing--

Fixed the blowout!

On our trailer we had the same problem. On an RV site someone suggested making a windshield.



I cut up a beer can and haven't had a blowout since.

Blow out!

I had an old Shasta trailer (1966) with just propane fridge. It would also go out on the road. When a fridge gets to set temp, it reduces the flame. I solved my problem by setting the fridge to max cold when driving. This kept the flame high and lit.
