As for the boring debate about Cummins vs. Int'l, I've had my 6. 0 for 54k miles and not a single problem. Before you rant at the issues the 6. 0 has, read your own forums for awhile. Bottom line is that all domestic products have issues, and the problem trucks who have knowledgable owners post their problems on these sites. Therefore, you get what you read - negative posts about this problem and that problem on Fords, Dodges, and Chevys.

I buy what I like best - I don't care who makes it. When Dodge makes a crew cab short wheelbase, I'll look at one. Until then, I'm buying either Fords or Chevys.

Good for you! I'm glad to hear you got a great truck! Ford makes a good truck. If the rest of it lasted like the TRUCK did, I'm sure alot of us would switch. Last I checked this wasn't a Rant. People are stating the issues they have had with Fords. This isn't a Pick on Ford issue... . it's stating facts. You are right ALL cars have issues... not just domestics! I see alot more POSITIVE posts about the Dodges here than Negitive! There are a few, but not like the Ford site where they are deleting posts every 10 min! :-laf :-laf

I had a guy ask about my cummins at a fuel station. The guy bought two 6. 0s with his business partner and hates them. They have some sort of fuel leaking issue and others. This guy had a 12 valve at one time and said he will get another CTD in the near future. His partner would rather have the problems with the Ford.

My girlfriend has an "05 F350, DRW, CrewCab, 4x4, 6. 0. Its a huge pile of crap. She's had it for 3 months and it's been in the shop 6 times already. Transmission, Serpentine belt broke & Transmission, Overheating, brake controller not working, brake controller again, and now it's in for overheating again. What a piece of garbage!

Good looking truck tho, I really like the interior. But that doesn't make up for not being able to go anywhere!

This truck is in the shop AGAIN for over heating. "Buy back" papers have been started.

Funny, I have a quad cab 1-ton short wheelbase 4x4 and it seems to have about the same interior room as the Ford, but the Chevy seems a tad bigger. Sure works like a crew cab for me, 4 real doors opening the right way and the 60/40 seat and storage underneath works good for me too! I guess when you drive your first Mega Cab then you will buy a Dodge?

I'll agree the high end King Ranch models have a real nice interior. It's a nice place to sit while you're on the side of the road with engine problems. :-laf

The Ford's rear is a lot bigger than the Chevy's - I've owned both. The Fords is a lot bigger than the Rams - I've ridden in the back of one.

I like the MegaCab, but I don't want a truck that's enormously long! I've owned a crewcab longbed, and it's just too much hassle in the city (when I'm there).

Well ... the two things that make the Fords and Chevys/GMCs better than the Dodges is ... ... ... ... 450/4500 and 550/5500 (15K and 17. 5K GVWR)!!!!

Oh and I forgot, you can get a Chassie Cab in either ... not Dodge :{ #@$%!

I'm going to test drive a '05 3500 DRW 4-door 6-speed tomorrow (after my 80K maint on my Jetta). I'm sure it will be nice, but if Dodge will not warranty the truck if I were to put a hydro-flatbed on the back ... I'll just keep on waiting.

Maybe Pete or KW will get into the market with a small 4X4 crew cab, chassie cab before Dodge does.

Had to add my 2 cents worth, as I'm a die hard Ford guy who just bought a 2001 3500 4x4 CTD Dodge truck ( My first Mopar since my 70 Challenger RT/SE in 1981 , a brief encounter with an 1980 Horizon I banished from my memory ) I'm also a Firefighter / Paramedic in Ph*****lphia , PA . I spent 10 years in one of the busiest Medic units in the country before transfering to an Engine Co. ( We averaged about 8000 runs /yr , over 21 calls a day, 24/7) My first truck was a Kodiac (Junk), That was replaced by a Freightliner (Detroit Diesel / Allison) (Problems), In 1998 got E350 Ford 7. 3 Diesel. This truck was dead stone reliable (trans at 80K, still running strong at 135K when it was replaced by 2002 E450 w/7. 3 Powerstroke) These trucks are started and run hard with no warmup, then Idle for extended times, then run hard to the hospital, then shut down with no cooldown time. Now for the bad news... ... The city just started putting Fords on the street with the new 6. 0 Powerstrokes, they always seem to be in the shop with turbo troubles and they smoke alot, which no one can seem to fix. ( A friends F 350 is also on it's second turbo in 4k miles, fortunately under warranty). Just a sidenote, the city purchased several Chevy ambulances as a cost saving measure about 4 yrs ago, it appears they were taken out of service prematurely due to major reliability problems. Not sure if Dodge makes a Cummins Ambulance chassis ( I doubt it as I've never heard of one ) but judging from how my truck runs it would probably make a great truck... ... ... ... . Just a thought... ... . These are just my opinions from my personal observations so please don't sue... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Now they are telling her that the truck is not actually overheating. It's the temp gauge! I don't believe it one bit. Anybody else herd of this?

I actually have a few buddies that have new 05 F-350s. One went through a fan clutch with caused his motor to overhead and blow a head gasket. The two other ones are having problems also with overheating while towing. Also their fans are acting up too. I kind of feel bad for them, but then I don't. Oil leaks and rough idle are some other problems they said that are happing to their trucks too. Gotta love the 6. 0 oh no, but they are pretty fast when they run, but again nothing beats the torque of true diesel.

I've been driving my buddies 6. 0 around and it sucks. I like driving it because everything is new and it's pretty sweet - crew cab 4wd with nice flatbed. It's just nice to drive a new truck around. The only problem is there's no power. From a stand still, you apply the throttle and it barely moves. You have to push the go pedal quite a bit before it will push itself around. It definitely needs a chip.

One thing that did surprise me is he said that it tows very well. He tows tractors and mini ex's often and said that it really doesn't affect the power or acceleration too much. I guess that's all that really matters. He received it new and he put 2600 miles on it so far in 9 days. WOW! I asked him if the company had a back up for all the times that it will be at the warranty station. He said no. I guess he'll be SOL!

Bschneider (the Ford guy) is partly correct!

Certainly there are lots of Ford & Chevy owners

out there who have not had any problems - and

are happy folks.

But I will have to take issue with what he sees on

the forums! When I went looking for a new diesel

I spent lots of time trolling the forums for each brand,

reading the "problems" the owners were having.

Now maybe Ford owners simply like to whine the most,

but by far they had the most legitimate problems - and

lots of owners looking for help. Serious, big-time help!

Engines. Transmissions - - and buy-backs! One guy had

a '03 bought back, having new set of trouble with the '05

replacement!

Talked to a few 6. 0 Ford owners - one guy had a business

that purchased 15 new Fords. Ten went back!

Another nice old guy (from PA) had a new F-350 towing a 32 ft

5th wheel parked at the local Elks lodge (So. CA) for a few days.

Said his transmission would lock up when slowing to a stop in tow/haul.

Went to Ford dealer in Phoenix for help. Service mgr said he

would be happy to fix it - could get to it in a week! Guy gave up

on repair - figured he could make it home to PA without tow/haul.

Didn't even have to drive any of the 3 to make MY decision!

I should add that I have owned lots of Fords and Chevys

in my 63 "old guy" years - including a 6. 9 Ford diesel.

And - never a DC product! So, I don't think I'm "biased"!

My brother-in-law worked for GM for 25 years, so I had

the opportunity to "pay what we pay" - long before the big

promotion. [Ford was ruled out early on! - Chevy D/A was

still a possibility. ]

When I showed him my new Dodge - he had to look under the

hood. He was amazed he could SEE the engine!

Called me over to see the snake pit in his D/A! He was even

impressed by the size of the seprentine belt on the Cummins

versus the little narrow belt (doing some strange turns) on

his '02 D/Max.

Oh yeah - one of the Firefighters I worked with has a Dodge

(Cummins) with 375K miles on it. Engine never been touched,

trans rebuilt.

I have run 4 or 5 of the 6. 0L Powerstrokes. Haven't had a problem with them. Pull nice, awesome power compared to the 7. 3s we have.

Dad's 04 6. 0 350 runs great, no problems, but low low miles (toy).

a friends 04 reg cab 250 puked the rear main seal out real bad at 20k. traded it towards an 04 ext. cab 250... . running the 6 gun and banks exhaust with absolutly no problems. i would still be hesitant to buy one myself, would probably go for an 02-03 7. 3 psd.

I LOVE my 6 speed cummins and the look of the dodge, but i'm real sick of the lack of quality that dodge has

i work for a company full of hard core dodge guys... but we need trucks that can handle a 4 man crew and dodge just didn’t make the cut. we bought 3 new fords... i stay away from them as much as possible in my opinion they are all junk. they have been back to the dealer several times. more times then the dodges have been in the whole time we have owned them. as for dodges we have a 1st gin with no problems coming on 300,000 miles 727 still going strong. another 1st gen also goin strong. 2- second gen 12v'ers one with just passed 200,000 with only having 5th gear fall off. . now fixed. the other has not had any major problems. 1 24v... mine which is the fastest truck on the fleet :-laf

we pretty much gave up on GM and got rid of all them except for a Kodiak which is a pile of crap. . now we have started in on freightliners. 2-fl50s and one fl60. as for the dodges we will have them forever. the fords will soon be worn out. i cant wait to see them go! and the freightliners will be all we buy from now on. maybe another run around dodge...

i have some friends the really love fords... i dont know what they see. :D anyways not to be raging on fords. i just dont like them and would rather put up with my failing LP and 5th gear. (now nv5600) and stay cummins not strokin :-laf

Talk to me after 200,000 miles please! My 01 just turned 212,000 and is real light on her feet... ... ... ... no oil consumption between changes - 6,000 miles..... so many people buy these rigs and then get rid of em in 70-80,000 miles... ... ... ... . and don't take this wrong - why anybody would buy anything like a King Something or else ranch interior is beyond me - IT"S A TRUCK! How in the heck can you put two wet yellow labs in that!!!!!
