My friends Ram is a 99, 4x4, auto, Cummins, and his transmission went south at 65,000 miles. Is this warrentied for 100K or is that just the engine? His truck isnt bombed, all stock except for straight piped. Any help is appreciated.

Just the engine is covered for 100k. If his dealer is kind and considerate and wants a return customer, he might look into the transmission to see what went wrong. If a component failed prematurely, he "might" be covered since he's still within the three year period even though he's well over 36,000 miles. If the transmission shows signs of hard use and the cause of the failure is worn out parts or overheated parts, your friend will probably have to pay. Just a thought based on my own past experience with dealerships that sell cars and trucks like hotdogs at a ball game to repeat customers.

I bought the extended wrap 100K warrenty, just because this could happen. I plan on selling my truck to a friend at 100K miles and buying a new one in 2005. I might keep it if no problems. I was just wondering what does it cost to buy a new transmission and have it installed in a 3500 4x4?

I would like to know how much a new trans costs also. Its times like this that I appreciate my 5-speed. This is my friends 2nd Ram, and he knew better than to get an auto because he pulls his TT alot, but his WIFE didn't want to row through the gears, and we all see who wears the skirt in his family. Thanks for the help!

Snyder,

If he is going to get a new transmission anyway he might as well get the best:

Talk to Bill K. about his warranty as well. No sense buying another stocker to tear up when he can get one that is REALLY hard to tear up. If you ride in a DTT equiped truck you may have second thoughts about the 5 speed.

Snyder, check the price from a dealer, then suddenly, the DTT becomes more attractive.

Plus you have Diesel Dynamics right there in LV to do the work.
