I have a dometic(?) frig. It only works on gas. It does not work on electric. How would I troubleshoot it to figure out what is wrong with it. I really hate taking it to the dealer for service.

The first thing you could do is check to see if you have power to the AC plug in the fridge compartment and also if the plug is making a good connection. I do not know how to post a link to a site so I will show an address. Hopefully this will work for you. Try to get on here,http://www.rvmobile.com/ Good luck.

I have the same issue with my Dometic. I can get it to work by very carefully (slowly) turning the GAS/ELECTRIC knob to electric a few times. I don't know why it's that way, but it always finally turns on and stays on. Probably a little oxidation on the contacts in the switch.

The 110 volt side of the fridge is just a thermostat and heater. Find the 2 wires for 110v that go into the heater, disconnect them, and put 110v directly onto the leads to the heater. Wait a half hour and check the freezer. If it's cold, then the basic cooling system is working and you have a thermostat problem. If the freezer doesn't get cold, check the heater stack to see if it is warm. If cold, then the heater element is bad.

BTW: I was able to find product and service manuals on the web for my Dometic.

assuming you have 120 volts in the plug where the frig plugs in... .

use a volt meter as see if the electric heating element has continuity.

If it doesn't then the electric element is bad and that is your trouble.

If it does then check the wires going to the element.

If you have no juice then the thermostat or the control switch might be the problem.

RJester,

If you find out that you need to replace a board. I would suggest you replace it with a "Dinosaur" board. That board is the most talked about board on the RV forums. I bought one a couple of yrs ago and my Refrig (Dometic) has worked better than new. They will warranty it even if you short something during the install plus 3 yrs. R&G electronics sell them 1-800-390-3908. The Micro P-711 board has a temp control "pot" that allows you to choose the full temp range on fixed temp refrigerators.

Good Luck

Harold

I agree with all the above... . but first I'd just look at the connections... .

I've looked at several of these that belong to friends..... like mine... . all we found was a wire off a connector from bouncing down the road... . I cleaned the connection and compressed the connector with a pair of pliers... . and each started to work... .

In each case it was a female spade that had worked loose... .

Dito on the Dino board , first open the box in the center of the back of fridge location of the board look and check the fuse in the box three of five amp ,it think ,box hard to open make sure 12v and 120 ac is off or be extra carefull or lucky Ron Bissett In Metro Louisville Ky or Tampa fla.
