Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) from 99CTD to 03 now 97

hey i have finally joined the 12V group with a 1997 white 3500 4x4 ATS auto. this is one bad MF. it rides much better than my 2003 3500 single wheel. doest handle near as well brakes suck however this is my favorite truck i have ever owned. sounds like a big rig. i love this tractor.



370's going in plate coming out afc getting spun egt's going up..... time for smoke b/c i dont have any right now.

Just curious about your exhaust manifold recommendation. Why?

Over time they tend to shrink causing the manifold to bend and break head studs and do other nasty damage... ...

That's what I have heard about the stock manifolds. I have heard many people say this happens a lot to the stock ones but then there have been a lot of people who say they have never had any issues with theirs, like me. I have about 150,000 miles on my stock manifold and I am sure it is probably shrinking already, I just need to find $400 layin' around so I can purchase that 3 piece ATS.

What else do you know about the 3 peice ATS. I have heard all that you get better flow through and it lowers egts. I would consider one if mine was cracked. Anyone have one on and can you give your experience with the ATS. I own a 96 CTD with 75,000 . It runs like a dream truck.

I have one. I do not doubt that it flows better than stock, but I saw no EGT reduction, maybe with a bigger turbo or something I might have noticed an EGT drop. I installed it because the stock one was getting tight against the mounting bolts.



It's a quality piece and I don't expect to have any troubles with it.

I also went from a 99 to a 96. The 12 valve just seems to sound better. My 99 was a 2wd 3500 QC 5spd.

I thought I wanted a new HO 6sp til I drove a friends 03 all day, around Phoenix. I didn't like the high hood at all, and the 6sp didn't trip my trigger very much for city driving! That was reaffirmation that my 97 is still a keeper. Craig

If your lining is up to snuff, try the manual adjustment. I can tell mine needs it by how the emergency brake functions. Does it have ABS? I suggest you get a feel for it in a controlled situation rather than an emergency one.

I went from a '90 3500 SRW CTD 5sp 4x4 to a 96 Powerstoke 2500 supercab 4x4 5sp and now to '97 3500 dually CTD 5sp. I just grew tired of electronic problems with the PS. Nice truck though. We will see how the '97 does. It has 100,000 w/only 8K on a new engine. The last owner let the EGT's get a little high and burned a piston.
