I know this has been covered a million times, but I'm gonna ask it again.

Auto trucks around the NE up here are a dime a dozen unlike 5 or 6 speeds which is what I have been looking for for a year.

I'm getting itchy and want to buy soon.

What do ya'll think about buying an auto and then buying a five or six speed and converting it.

I have confidence in being able to do it. But I wonder if it's worth it.

What else is involved other than the obvious pedals, steering column, and transfer case?

If anyone has ANY input please let me know.

Thanks,

Don

Lots of $$ involved in the conversion. You would be better off to start looking nationally for a manual if you can't find one locally. Even a stea... dealer should be able to locate one and have it shipped in if they want the sale bad enough.

the dealer had 3 6spd truck the last time I was there 01 and 02's

2 of them were 3500's

that was at Vancouver Dodge in Washington state!

It makes no sense to me to buy the wrong truck so that you convert it. If you already owned the truck, it still wouldn't make sense. You can fly anywhere in the country to buy a truck, and spend less time and money than doing the conversion. The parts required to go from auto <-> manual could be endless.

Also, IMHO, don't even look at the 5 speeds. Get a 6 shooter.
