06 CTD MegaCab 4x4

I just turned 15K miles on my truck and took it to the dealer to have the front and rear diff's fluid changed and they told me water was present in the rear diff. They asked me if I pulled a boat and I told them NO, that this truck had never been in the water other than normal road driving. It does flood in Houston. Do you think I have anything to worry about? Any suggestions would be helpful.

you may want to pull the covers and installed some new gaskets or RTV. Or, at least inspect them very well. If it's doesn't seem you could have had water entry through the pumpkin gaskets, you may have bad wheel hub seals. Do you notice any oily or greasy looking stuff around your wheels or on the inside of them ?

The dealer only uses a siphon to get the gear oil out so, it would probably be a good idea to open them up anyway just to be sure you don't have anything else in there ( like chunks of metal from bad lubrication ).

You're probably ok inside your axle but, you sure do what to find out where the water got in!

Theres been a thread that says that the 1st diff change will look gray because of some material that is used in the mfg of the diff set to setup the gears. The dealer may not be aware of this, although I would question any dealer's capabilities if they were not aware of such a basic concept.

Thanks Triton! The dealer guys are so full of it, they said they opened it up and everything looked good. I try to use the dealer to avoid any warranty issues down the road and this is the kind of service we get. I should just do it myself. I do my own oil and fuel filter changes.

I havent noticed any oily res around the wheels but I will for sure keep my eye out.

I might just bite the bullet and buy Mag Hytec covers.

Thanks again Triton.

Thanks Klenger. I actually read that same thread before. I tell you what these dealers need to be stopped for as much as we spend on these trucks.
