I would like to know why the ends of the front axels including the u joints are not painted. I ordered a 2002 4x4 QC SB 6 speed SLT plus 8 weeks ago which is do in any day now. I would like to know if these parts can be painted without causing any problems. THANKS.

I used a semi flat rust oleum paint and just went at it. since the joints are sealed, I think no problem. I kept away from the boots of the joints but did the rest of the hardware.

Also painted my driveshaft, rear axle, brake drums (you don't have) , and the weld areas of the exhaust pipe. any place you might think it will rust, paint it.

I also got 4 cans of the rubberized undercoating and did the whole underside from cab to tailgate. Take down the spare to get the whole area above the tire. do this as soon as you get your truck since it will be very clean then.

Hope this helps,

Eric

FRONT AXLE

My entire front axle was'nt painted the whole thing was rusting. When I bought the truck I told them I wanted it painted they laughed at me and said no one looks under there anyway. What a crock of s%*&. Well they eventually painted it while it was in the body shop for the dents they put in it.....

Gregg, Here's something else to try to keep that undercarriage looking new. If you're getting a 4x4, from behind, that rear axle shows alot. So what i've been doing is spraying the axles, leaf springs and frame with wd-40 to keep everything looking new.
