Does anyone know where I can find the cable control for the front differential, that replaces the vacuum control?

I would like to install this on my truck, some have put it on so they could go to low range on the transfere case and still be in 2 wheel drive.

I did some searching and could not find it.

Thanks,

John

JC Whitney sells the 4x4 Posi-Lok system. I run it and it has worked fine. Always make sure that you engage the t-case before engaging the cable. Do not try forcing the cable. (Learned that the hard way. )

You know, I have considered putting one of those on specifically for use as a 2 wheel low, but I wonder how the cable system will hold up in the long run. I've had too much (bad) experience with manual choke cables that get dirty and stick. Kind of makes me wonder if it wouldn't be asking for trouble down the road. As far as reliability, I've not experienced any problems with the OEM vacuum system. Does this look like a quality product?

I installed one from Bob Verhoef which is vacum and is easily installed. Works great backing the 5vr into the camp spots. No sling shot reverse backing!!

I looked at these for a year before I bought one...

Here's what I found:

Cable kit:

1) Expensive.

2) Durability may be questionable.

3) Engaging the cable at hiway speeds will damage the front axle disconnect parts.

4) Mounting might be a challenge.

PDR/BD (electric spool valve):

1) Involved electric current in a vaccuum switching operation. (Like using an electric shifter to shift a 5 speed. )

2) The valve assembly is kind of large and the proposed mounting (off the master cylinder) is potentially in the way.

3) Requires mounting of a electric switch. (Might not be an issue for many).

4) Still might be able to engage the axle disconnect in 2 wd (bad).

Bob V. :

1) Best price.

2) Easiest install (under 1 hour).

3) I always wanted a knob mounted to my shifter. (Kind of wish I had gotten the red knob so it would be more noticeable).

4) Cannot engage the front axle in 2 wd.

5) No electrics, no space issues.

Guess which one I got for Christmas?

Disclaimer:

1) I am not associated with Bob V. (although my Mom said he is a really nice guy).

2) I buy all my engine stuff from Piers. (He's a really nice guy too).

There is a metal rod on the end that mounts to the factory shift fork. I pulled the cable out of the little rod. This is not a design flaw though. It clearly states in the directions to always have the transfer case in 4wd before engaging or disengaging the cable. The tore up cable was completely my fault and the replacement cable was about $60. There is no problem with rust. The cable is about 7/16" thick and is completely sealed with a rubber coat. I think it is a good quality product.

It's a 3-way vaccum switch. Shift the t-case lever then pull the knob. If you pull the knob without shifting the case first, it can't engage the front axle because of the 3 way valve function.

Installation involves redirecting the vaccum and mounting the knob. Do a search, there are pictures floating around herre somewhere...

THANKS DAVE

Just what I was looking for, got it ordered, have had some problems getting full engagement. Looked at the axle yesterday. Don't care for the vacuum arrangement on the Dodge. First noticed because the light was not working.
