When braking hard I hear and feel a clunk. I am assuming it is coming from the driver's side front axle. Any suggestions?

Check the intermediate shaft between the steering column an the box. If it's loose, that can cause that clunk. Always felt it in the floorboard right under my right foot:confused:

After I replaced that, the clunk stopped.

I had it...fixed!

You will find your clunk in the steering shaft!! It is supposed to telescope as the suspension goes up and down... but the lovely DC design allows water to run down into the bottom half and the whole thing rusts together making a solid shaft!! The clunk is actually the shaft being driven hard into the firewall bushing!!! I had my bushing replaced at the dealer (not under warranty because of age/mileage). To fix, remove the shaft; break the rust bond; and oil the snot out of it before replacing. Have fun!
