Hi needing to change left front axle seal in a dana 60 could some one tell me the procedure or a TDR Issue
no. that might have that info. and possibly a good place to order them, These parts house's like advance auto and oreilly auto parts here in town are a joke.

Here is a site with instructions using home made tools: Front Axle Tech

Also see Dodge Front Axle & Steering. They sell seals and the tools to install them right without damage. The driver side can be done without the tools. The passenger side requires either the tools they sell or some version of a home made setup. Since you must remove everything from the front end (all axles and carrier) to do the driver side you might as well do them both while in there. I have done the job without their tools but its not as easy. I finally bought the tools for the last seal job I did. I have bought seals from Carquest and Napa in the past and also used some from quad4x4 when I bought the tools.

Front axle tech info gave me some ideas but made tool pull seals in instead of driving them
always wanted to start crooked,Thanks for the info got me on the right track any way.

The tools which quad 4x4 sells that are made for the job also pull the seals in but the adapters that fit inside the seals fit much better than sockets so they will pull in straight. The driver side can be driven in.

When you are cleaning the axle tubes, I would think you want to blow the junk out the end of the axle, not into the diff, but that axle tech pages leads me to think you blowing it into the diff? Am i reading this wrong?

Chris

Yes i think you are reading it right there were a couple of things that didn't sound right to me . I took a 1 11/16 3/4 drive socket ground it down flat then took the belt sander and tapered it and pulled seals in with 5/8 threaded rod using another 3/4 socket and a couple of big washer that i had centered every thing and puled them in.

I personally don't follow everything exactly as that person has it down. I just put the link out there for some basic info with pictures. I built an axle tube cleaner long ago since I have worked on a lot of rear ends. Its just a curved and sharpened disk on the end of a piece of 1/2" water pipe. The curved end is smaller than the axle tube but is rounded so a few swipes cleans them out pretty well. I sometimes put a wad of paper towel on the end with brake clean to get it cleaner. When I did the socket method I didn't shape it perfectly so it didn't work so well for me.
