Front axle shaft u-joint lube?

Have any of you lubed the front axle prop shaft as mentioned in the owner's manual? I can't see a fitting. Is there a special gizmo to grease it with?

Yea, it's in there. It takes a needle greaser pushed up in there to get it. All you are greasing is the centering portion of the assembly, not the joints. Pulled the whole shaft out of an 05 today over a bad joint. Finally found the fitting. Next week I'll pull all the shafts out of all our trucks and grease them. Should be easy to pull the shaft ,place on bench so you can see to grease the crazy thing.

Couldn't find it on my 07 truck. Manual says it may or may not be there.

Under the hod on my 07. 5 there is a sticker saying to grease the shaft joint with each oil change. The lst time that I was a the dealership getting the oil changed I drilled them on whether or not they greased it. They went and checked with a mechanic in the back and he said that my truck didn't have one. I have yet to look for myself, but it seems odd that Dodge would put that sticker under the hood for no reason. Can't trust anyone, gotta look for yourself.

The advisement is also in the owners manual along with a photo of where it is located. . GREASE THE JOINT WITH EACH OIL CHANGE... . but I will be darned if I could find the darn thing. I even spun the shaft and looked at all angels with a bright light and blew off all dust with air line too... . I could not find it. Needing a needle greaser pin type device means there is no zerk type fitting... I know. . but I could not see anywhere where even a needle pin would insert. Anybody out there got any photos to show this newbie??

Here's a 5. 9 truck. Pic is not mine. However, I've been holding onto it for others. I jack up the driver front tire just off the pavement. Spin tire until grease joint is found. I use the grease needle found at Napa.

I to have looked several times even after seeing the picture. The mechanics told me some of them very few have the fitting but most do not. Good luck I am up to 27750 miles and no trouuble yet

Thanks for the tip on jacking up the front tire. I've been (like a dummy) crawling out and driving the truck forward an inch and then crawling back under. Do that about 5 times and you earn your beer. If it wasn't for this picture I would never have found it.



I've been making sure I wipe the excess grease off each time to make it easier to find next time. A headlamp helps too.

WCJP - I have an 06 Megacab (automatic) and I've been poking all around the area that the needle fitting is supposed to be - still nothing in site. The area is pretty clean, but I just don't see anything. I've reviewed the pics and rotated via a jacked-up tire; still nothing. Is this something specific to manual trannies? I saw another post by Dan Sullivan indicating that the needle fitting may or may not be present. Is it possible my truck (see sig) isn't configured with such a fitting? Or maybe my eyesight is getting worse than I know...

Sorry, I don't know the answer. Hopefully other auto transmission guys chime in. On my manual transmission truck my head is towards the front of the truck just barely forward of the cross member. Now looking rearward is when I spot the fitting.

My 6. 7 Auto has the 'fitting', but I'll be damned if it'll take any grease. I've used needles, and even bend a few trying to get them in there where it'll take grease. No luck. And it's ******* me off, can't imagine what I'm missing.

You need a grease gun with a flex hose that can be operated with one hand. The tip has a fitting that is about 1 1/2 long 1/8 thick nozzle . uncoln is the company that made it. I use long wooden Q tips to reach up and clean the joint. I look up under the beam going across from the drivers side to passanger side. The same way I am laying. turn the tire and use a flash light. I find it is better than a trouble light to look into the joint. PAINT THE SPOT AFTER YOU FIND IT. I did and it is still hard to find. So don't feel bad
