I am servicing the trans currently. I adjusted the rear band, but looking at the front, I am unsure if I will have success. I assume it is setting in such a way that a spring to "throtle" is blocking access? I assume you have to take that spring off of where it mounts, and let it hang to get at the adjusting nut and screw? What do you guys use to get at it and torque, there is very little room to manuver?

Also in my pan, the fluid was defineately not red, kind of a light brown. Did not smell burnt to me or the wife. In the pan on the magnet was some fuzz, but very little. There was a piece of metal in the pan that measured about 1" by 1/16" by 3/16". It was curved, similar to a piece of a broken Snap ring, or C clip. Any idea what this is, and should I have Kondolay on speed dial? ;)

Thanks a bunch

Jay

if kondolay is a transmission shop i would say yes

but maybe you should have it looked at before any more damage is done, good luck

Snap ring

Jay, where are you located?

Take a look at the snap rings that hold the second gear servo in place, and the rear servo for the rear band. The snap ring for either of these servos may have a piece missing.

Getting to the adjustment for the 2nd gear band is a bit tough. But you can use a 1/4" allen wrench as a feeler gauge and adjust the clearance between the lever and the servo rod to be a snug 1/4". This way you don't have to try to read a torque wrench up under the truck.

Pm me if you have any problems.

Looks like the piece of metal in the pan was a retaining ring for part of the overdrive. :(

Looks like I will be doing some transmission shopping.

Thanks fellas
