I was rotating my tires and noticed my front left wheel bearing sounding really dry. When I put a tire back on, it had some play in it. The passenger side rotates great with no play and very quiet..... My truck has 98,000 on it. Is it normal for one to wear out before the other??? Just asking. Anyway, is it one whole hub assembly or can you change the bearings out?

The drivers side went out on me at about 120,000 miles and I replaced it unfortunately you have to buy the whole hub and only the dealer has it. I think it was around 420. 00 bucks just for the one side. I dident bother to replace the other side since it was still fine and dident feel like dropping close to a grand for two wheel bearings. When mine went it started to make a squeeking sound and when i pulled the hub off the bearings fell out and a couple of them had been turned sideways in the race. :--) :--) I was suprised that the wheel was still turning.

just paid 668 from dealer for two hubs when I did my ball joint. Yes one could fail before the other. Replace one and keep a close eye on the other.

This was my question at one time. I wanted to get away from this type of bearing and have not found a way yet. Talk about a bad idea for us and great one for the stealers. Would be nice to see someone come out with a replacement so we could get back to the old style. Hint Hint, any vendors watching?

I saw one at a booth at the SEMA show a couple of years ago. TRW I think.

I tried, but couldn't talk them into selling me the one they had on display at the end of the show.

124,000 miles on mine ... I guess they could go bad at any time now :(

Autozone's website claims that front hub/bearing assemblies are available via special order for $229 (for a 2002 2500 4wd. )

Edit: I should point out that price is for zip code 60108.

Autozone, Napa, Central and Discount Auto Parts do not have the right bearing I have been there done that and ordered the part only to find out that it was wrong. :{

The part they will give you looks like a toy compared to the bearing that is in our front hubs.
