Well its time to do a brake job ,whats the latests and greatest in brake pads . Last i heard it was the carbon fiber or carbon kevlar from Auto zone . I guess i will be doing the rears also so will put the larger brake cylinders in along with new shoes . Arnie

Performance Friction carbon metallic has a new pad out-its called Z-rated and is their top of the line. I'm trying a set on my 99-I would get 20,000 per set on their regular carbon metallic's and that the best I could get. I have a fast, heavy truck so I use alot of brakes. :D

Have 60k on my Performance Friction carbon metallics and a fair amount of pad left... miles are roughly 10-20% towing... 60-70% highway w/ everything else in town. The pads did improve braking performance...

Brakes

I don't have enough miles on mine to comment on longevity. After I smoked the OEM pads, I replaced them with Performance Friction Pads. They made a huge difference in stopping with reduced side "grab. " At about 35K miles, they seem to be fine. Last year, I changed over to the larger rear cylinders. I wish I had done that the day I brought the truck home, new.

Bottom line: Do it.

TDR Member Sam Peterson "aka" the brake Guru puts together a nice brake pad package and it also free shippping.

Sam is up here in Washington State :)

@~120k I'm still running the original rotors... just swapped out pads to the PFC carbon metallics and didn't touch the rotors.

Well i had a night mare of a time . The shop gave me the wrong pads ,they were for the 4x4 and mine is a 2 wheel drive . The pads on the 4x4s are thicker . Not knowing this i tried pushing the piston in farther with a c clamp untill i was not able to hold every thing from twisting out of my hands . Finally called the shop back and they said they had another set, different number . They said the ones i had show for 4x4. The replacements fit and all is well now . Arnie

Question for those that are using either the Performance Friction or EGR Carbon Fiber pads. How bad is the brake dust? Worse than stock or better?

The brake dust is much less then before. The larger wheel cyl are avalible seperatly from EGR, 38 bucks each. you can go to auto zone all you want, this baby can stop!

Much less dust.

If you have a 2500 you can get bigger rear cylinders by getting cylinders listed for the 3500s... sold just about eveywhere I'm guessing.

Ive got a few more miles before i replace the oem pads . One of the most important things for me in brakes is squealing, rattles or other noises. On my 92 CD I had over 120K on the oem's and was very happy. I think I read that the shoes sold by this Peterson guy made lot of noise??

Well you guys have me worried. I just went and bought a set of NAPA's Fleet Duty, or Severe Duty pads for my truck. They are a lifetime warranty, but now I am worried that they might eat my rotors. Has anyone used these, or knows what materials make up the compound on these?

Let someone else do the experimenting

Don't see why you guys just don't buy pads from Sam Peterson 360/357-4958

43. 00 a set, includes 4 new slider bushings, silicone and anti squeal lube plus free shipping.

These pads are long proven to be the best match for our brake systems with long wear, won't tear up your rotors with minimal dust and squeal.
