Well I cant remember what type of Raybestos I was using but I told the parts man I wanted the best ones for the application . Let me know how it stops in a rain . I also used the Raybestos (made in the US) rotors also .

Thanks for all the information.......

I just got back into town after a week long job related trip to LA area. I want to thank everyone for their time and responses to this thread.

It has taken me awhile to digest all this information and I'm going to proceed with purchasing the following items:

1. The high quality rotors from NAPA. I will try to get the rotors swirl finished somewhere here in town.

2. Unloaded-heavy duty calipers from NAPA, the ones with metal pistons. Plus any new hardware related to mounting.

3. OEM brake pads. I don't want squealing and excessive brake dust.

4. New master cylinder from NAPA.

5. New brake lines from NAPA.

6. Dot 4 brake fluid.

The above listed materials should be for$500 - 600 but well worth it.

Am I headed in the right direction???

Thanks again for all the information.

Jim

I inquired as of Why etc. Said they forgot to pick them up in their home town and in past had used differant aftermarket pads for racing/street etc. and found they got same number of laps/races etc and equal performance in their class's from factory pads and rotor life was was greatly extended. On nonfactory pads said had to replace all rotors as quick as they replaced pads.

This goes to show it's all about the brake material. Nissan just happened to get it right.

I just installed new front brakes on Friday. I had to replace both rotors - bought the good Raybestos ones, $99 each, not the offshore junk - and used the Raybestos PG Plus semi-metallic pads (I sure wish the previous owner knew how to use his trailer brakes..... I have over $600 in F&R brakes in the past month). So far I'm happy with them - no noise, stop great, etc. I'm leaving for a 3000+ mile trip to Oregon next month, most of it through the mountains of California, so I'll let you know if I'm still satisfied when I get back.

A friend of mine just replaced the rotors on his '97 and he got the Raybestos rotors at a local auto parts store(not big chain... private owned) and he only paid $40 Canadian each for the rotors. I couldn't believe they were that cheap.
