I am looking for new rotors for the front of the 1990. Dodge no longer offers them so I am stuck with aftermarket.

Is here a preffered brand to go with or??? Does one offer better duability and super duper stopping power?

Thanks!

Robert

DONT GO TO ROCK AUTO they will send some used part that someone put on took off and sent back. They must not check it out because they sent me A USED PART. #@$%! NEVER AGAIN Get used to it I WILL BAD MOUTH THEM FOR ETURNITY

I have never had a problem with any part from rockauto. I've gotten TONS of parts from them.

As far as brands go, I've had good luck with Raybesots products.

I have had the auto parts store versions and have never been happy with them. They warp too quickly.

Go OEM or go with a specialty rotor.

I think my next ones will be from "frozen rotors". I read lots of good things about them, no negative reports. The cost is not that much more IMO.

Frozen Rotors ?Is that the same as Cryo

Yes they are cryogenically treated. I just remember the name frozen rotors, I'm sure other companies make them also.

I went with ebcbrakes.com I used their SS sloted and dimpled rotors and top of the line pads. I've got 11,000 miles on them and I am happy with the performance.

Jay - Hit the nail on the head. My rotors only have 20K miles on them. Warped. :(

Rockauto - Hmm. Only ordered from them once and got very damaged E brake cables. Willing to give another shot but the response makes me nervous to do that!

EBC - Looked at them and actually called and spoke with them as it seemed like a good product. Guy was not so knowledgable though. Could not answer the basic questions so I continued on...

Cyro brakes eh? Never heard of them. Will have to look into them. The idea that they dont warp as they are treated?

Thanks and keep the thoughts coming! :)

That's what they say. but then again they are trying to sell them.

I have read about several who have used them and say they last a long time. I can't recall reading anything saying they were disappointed in them.

"My rotors only have 20K miles on them. Warped"

Wish I could get 20K. Try 8 to 10K Cheap, junk, chinese made rotors, but they are in stock locally where OEM takes 4 days to get. Go figure. Oops. . sorry I digress

I would get OEM if they were available, but was told no longer! :{

20K of highway driving and using the exhaust brake down to about 20 mph! ;)

Robert

I don't know if you have an exhaust brake on not but mine has helped me to triple the life of my front rotors/pads. My last set whet 80,000 miles because of the liberal use of my Exh. brake. I gave my neighbor the old rotors for his '91. 5 and they are just starting to pulse a little bit.

GLHS - Thanks. Looks like good stuff there!

Bob - Yes. I run a PRXB. I rarelly use the service brakes as I run 65 psi retarding pressure!

The issue was I lost a rear drum spring last fall homing home from your neck of the woods and I did an emergency stop (2 of them actually!) with a 11K lbs trailer behind from 70 mph to 0. No ebrake time and I apparently was running only front. Likely overheated them. ;)

My last set lasted 8 years! :D

I run my exh-brake off a micro switch activated when I let off on the brake. That way I can leave my exh-brake in cab switch on all or part of the time and it automatically comes on when I let off of the go pedal.

Robert, Just after I bought my '97 one of the first things I did was upgrade the front rotors & pads. I went with Pro Performance rotors and NAPA's Adaptive one ceramic pads. I've got 30,000 miles on them, am still a solid 60% on the pads & that's after several trips (with a 21ft travel trailer behind me) over Stevens & Snoqualmie passes with no exhaust brake! Never got hot & never no brake fade. I can't be happier with them. Granted the pads & rotors were a little pricey but I believe worth every penny. If ever I need to replace the rotors, NAPA now has their "Reactive one" slotted rotors with are supposed to be their beefiest one yet.

Thats because the Chinese rotors are probably made somewhere here, and USA stamped rotors are probably made overseas so it takes 4 days to ship. :D

I've been thinking of going with compacted graphite iron brakes like they use on high speed rail and Nascar brake rotors. :)

I've had great luck with Napa Premium rotors on HD trucks... and the Adaptive One pads. But I've not tried them on the first gen yet.

I lied! I was thinking of EGR... never mind. I retract my above statement!

In regards to EBC, will have to give them a call.

Bob,

Just spoke with EBC. They say they do not offer any rotors and never have!

Do you by chance have a part number I can use?

Thanks!
