I have a 03 with 55k miles 90% of them are stop and go with a 7000lb landscape trailer. At 45k my front pads were squeaking horribly so I had a friend of mine change my front pads with some Wagner Thermoquiets and since about 50k the right front is squeaking alot. I pulled the wheel off today to check to rotor, but it was perfectly smooth. Any idea what it could be??

you might want to have the rotors turned. first you need to check to make sure that the rotor has enough material left to turn it though. if not you just might want to look into getting new rotors. most likely the squeaking is caused by the rotor being warped. just my 2 cents.

i don't know if there is suppose to be a shim behind the pad between it and the caliper. if it is suppose to be there and is missing, it can cause squeek. you can buy some of this blue gooey stuff that you put behind your pad [and the shim that should be there?] and it helps eleminate the squeek. .

I was recently introduced to the wonders of this stuff (although what I used was pink rather than blue). CRC Disc Brake Quiet. Had to put it on a Hyundai that I worked on whose front brakes squeeled (sounded like someone killing 1000 cats every time you touched the brake). Now it's silent.

I agree with Nick and Lagos... make sure all appropriate shims are in place and everything is nicely lubed. If you still have the squeel, go get the brake quiet!

If you used factory pads to start with and installed with the backing matieal that comes with them you wouldn't have a squeak/squeal more then likely to start with. I cannot even imagine how many aftermarket pads/shoes over the years that we took off and threw in the trash on Nissan/G. M. and Chyysler built vehicles. Or how many customers I told this to that the following day or week I saw at the parts counter buying new pads and saying I hope your right and a few days later stopping by and telling me what a waste of money those aftermarket $15. 99 or what not pads were. I just did front and rear pads only on our Mercury Gran Marquis 4. 6. Got them at the Lincoln Mercury store. Just my 02 worth.

I am dropping the truck off in the morning to have a mechanic look at it. My dad got Wagner Themal Queits which are some of the best I was told, they are not the Autozone 11. 99 specials. I wanted to try something else since this is a work truck that has a trailer behind it 90% of the time. I just thought that the factory pads should have lasted a few more miles than they did.

One more time. Just change them to factory pads. I'm telling you. I've thrown many a WAGNER pad in the trash also. I think 55k is good mileage in around town and pulling a landscape trailer. I've had landscapers on 2nd generations get 10THOUSAND and be in the metal. On another note your rotors could be glazed badly. They may need to be turned and a swirl finish put on them after turning.

I have the same problem! However, I installed factory pads! The rotors were true so we only needed to scuff up the surface (we did this by using a brake rotor cutting machine). We also put on some anti-squeal on the metal surfaces. But after about 5,000 miles they started in making noice. It doesn't bother me that much, and it isn't very loud, and it stops great!
