Are there any front brake pads that dont squeal??

I have Raybestos severe duty rotors,,slotted and cross-drilled,,,in good shape. .

I have tried a few different sets of pads and thow them away after a couple months for the squealing noise that drive me nuts. .

So,,if anyone knows of a good pad thats quiet,,i'd really like to know about it.

Carbon metalics

I use the carbon metalics from Auto Zone

I think they are made by performance friction.



Be sure to properly break in your pads to avoid glazing.



Oh yeah

Keep those caliper pins well lubed too.

They tend to cause the brakes to drag and heat up causing glazing.

Yeah, the most common cause of squealing brakes is them not being properly lubricated. You have to lube the pin as well as an part the pad backing plate slides on the caliper itself. They sell special lube at auto parts stores. Usually called something like "Disc Brake Quiet. " Hope this helps. One more thing I just remembered. Whenever you change your pads, you should also have your rotors turned (unless you're using new rotors). This makes it so the pad and the rotor can wear to each other, giving you the best matched surfaces. This could also be part of the problem.

I do keep all pins and slides lubricated...

The pads in it now are Hawkheads. .

The rotors are in great shape still. . no grooves. .

I have been using pads known to be soft and not to hard on rotors.

Hope i can find some quiet pads soon.

Doesn't necessarily mean they're not warped. I've seen brand new rotors that were warped.



Turning the rotors is a small cost...
 
Turning slotted rotors?

Hooter has slotted rotors.

I don't think you are supposed to turn the slotted rotors.

I have had the cross drilled (only) rotors in the past.

I used to have them turned, but it was a real pain to re-countersink all the holes.

I run the slotted and cross drilled rotors now.

I have no more brake issues :)

I can't stress enough the importance of keeping the caliper pins lubed now that the wet weather is here.

Actually, you can turn slotted rotors. The slots actually help you determine when you're at your minimum thickness. Once the slot disappears, they're too thin. ;)
 
Have you tried any of the squeal limiting pads or adhesives? They apply to the back of each pad and prevent squealing pretty effectively.
 
You are not suppose to turn slotted rotors, but its possible. Most companies do not specify the discard thickness on slotted rotors since you are suppose to replace them when you replace your pads.
 
When I got my Power Stop rotors from Summit, they came with some paperwork inside the box that listed a minimum thickness for turning, but upon further review, my rotors aren't slotted, they're just cross-drilled. :confused:
 
I just did mine this weekend with Raybestos severe duty, had the rotors turned, works great, no rattle or squeal.



I used lots of brake clean, got all the mating areas real clean, then applied synthetic brake lube to all mating and moving parts.



Put in Speed Bleeders, and flushed the fluid out with DOT 3/4. Those bleeders are the coolest idea. Makes it a one man job.

Performance Friction from AutoZone - I've run them for 170,000 (200,000 on truck) one replacement set of rotors, 3 sets of pads (best 36. 00 I ever spent - they were offering lifetime replacement - now it's only a 2 year replacement) - usually because one caliper hangs up and drags wearing more quickly than the others - but no squeal ever.
 
quiet brakes.

My stock pads lasted 79k miles, and were quiet. The first set of replacement pads were from NAPA, and they were very noisey. I replaced them with HawkHP Superduty brake pads from "Geno's Garage. They work fine, and are quiet. Hope this info is helpfull. My $. 02. "Ironbutt" :D
