front brakes

I need new front brakes for my y2k 2500 4x4. Any suggestions as for the best pads, as I tow extremely heavy. front brakes have about 40k on them now and are completely gone. also I need to find a place in NE Ohio to get my rotors turned, local dealer doesn't have anyway to do it on the truck and they want $800 to do it off the truck. any help would be appreciated. Talk to Sam Peterson about carbonmet pads lots of people have put them on there trucks. Do a search on here and you will find more about them. Son put them on his 99 and I got a set for my 00. In fact I never used them,still have them in the box cause I bought an 03. If your interested in them pm me.

I put a set of carbon metallics on my '96 - the difference was incredible. Very smooth and progressive, but with much more 'bite' & shorter stopping distances.



For the few bucks difference I wouldn't go with anything else again, especially since the factory brakes are just OK.



$800 to machine rotors?!? Could you not pick up a few pairs of replacements for that & skip the machining? (Think that I was $100/side for Wagner US made rotors when I last bought)

In fact I am thinking of putting them on my brandnew 2002 with only 4000 miles on it.



the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads don't eat up rotors so I want to get the factory pads off before the damage is done.

As someone earleir has already stated call Sam Peterson in the NW. The CarboMets he sells are absolutely the finest set of pads I have installed on any of my trucks. They will stop the same cold or hot and are not weather sensitive and do not dust up my wheels at all. I have also installed a set on my wifeys Durango from Sam and they have completely eliminated the dust problem she was having and constantly griped about. Sam's customer service is second to no one and you'll be pleased with him. When I ordered the sets for our rides here he did not stock the ones for my wifes Durango but had them shipped directly from the factory. He told me about 4 shipping days to me from the NW to here in Central PA. Durango pads were here in 2 and the 2500 pads were here in 4 exactly. A call to him is worth your time and you'll be satisfied.



As for the turning the front rotors deal. Why not go to the NAPA site and do a search on a dealer near you. The rotors and hubs come off the trucks and its a job you can do in a afternoon yourself and save some money. Took me more time to prep for reassembly than my NAPA dealer to turn them down for me and when doen it saved me a pile of cash for other honeydo projects. Cost and Squeakage?

I'm very intersted in these, I put some lifetime warranty pads and new rotors on the truck from O'Reilly's back in August and they are looking fine(15K on them), BUT they squeak like hell, I find myself slamming on the brakes just to keep from hearing them. If I even look at the brake pedal they squeak.



How are these pads about noise and what do they run price-wise?

Did you put the AntiSqueal on the back sides of the pads? I bet that stops the squeal. I use the type that is thick like caulk. Put it on, smooth is out and give it a couple minutes to setup before installing the pads. Never had a squeak out of any of my cars or trucks.

I put some lifetimes on-short lifetime, and ruined my wheels.



I then installed the carbomets, right on the old rotors, as rough and warped as could be.

They are wonderful.



Steinel, the Carbomets are the only thing that kept me out of the hay bales last Saturday, the sled couldn't stop me, you should get some.

I doubt you have that problem, though.

Brother-in-law works at the local dealer and got me a set of oem for $34 went to put them on on Sat. and they were worse than expected, inside pad on drivers side was wore through the rivits and had wore half of the rotor off. I am getting a new set of rotors put on on sat. so that might be the time to put on the good pads. B. I. L is helping with the work for very cheap and we are doing it at the dealership so we have everything we need. Not sure of what the rotors will cost but labor will be cheap.

I took my rotors into Napa for turning and they ruined them, at least they replaced them for free so no loss. Our rotors are harder than most shops are used to dealing with.

Pads that squeak are generally too hard (long life) but wear out your rotors.

Sam's carbomets are a perfect match for our rotors and brake system.

Is this O'Reilly's a manufacturer , or a parts house

I put the EGR Carbon Kevlar Pads and Slotted rotors on mine. There is not near as much brake dust and it does stop better.
