THESE ARE GREAT!!! I haven't got the funds as of yet to spend on a buckstop, a ranch hand or any other pro made bumper. On top of that the shipping would sting a bit. my plans are to fab one up and have it sprayed when I get my bed liner. please keep the pics inbound. thanks

No it is not a diesel I did a lot of research before I bought the liberty and the wife just did not want a diesel in her car. Since I travel a lot i felt it was better just to make her happy.
it serves her needs and she loves that liberty. oh well

This is my bumper I have a boss snow plow and did not like looking at the hardware under the truck so I built this and its dear proof.

Signal73, tell me a little about the tire and wheel set up on your 96. are those second gen aluminium wheel with center caps from the steel set? they look great.

The rims are the 02 alloys grinded down to work with the drum brakes, 265/75/16 BF goodrich all terrains with yes you guessed it the eariler model center caps. I had to take about 3/8" off around where the cap meets the wheel in order for the cap to be able to grab the lugnuts. Also take note, there are 2 different designs of those caps, one has a ring all the way around the inside to grab onto the lugnuts to hold it in place, the other has the individual claw looking thing to grab the lugnuts individually. you need to use the latter or the solid ring wont allow you to take off that 3/8 thats needed. Ill try to post a pic later on.

Thanks for the compliment, Jim

Thanks for the feed back Jim. i hope to see more info on this wheel set up. Please post some other pics and more info on grinding the rims if you can.

Dave

there is a lip right on the inside edge of the rim you can feel it running your fingers over it. probably is an inch wide and 3/32 or so high. I put the rims on the axles backwards while on jackstands and put it in low letting the wheels turn while using an angle grinder to bring the lip down flush with the rest of the rim. you need to do this with the older trucks with drum brakes, since the rims were designed for the trucks with the disk brakes.

Here is a pic of the caps left is uncut, right is modified to fit.

that should give you an idea of how much to take off.

Here is a pic of the 2 different style caps. Im not 100% sure the one on the right can be made to work.

Good luck anything else let me know.

Thanks a ton Signal73. If I purchase a truck in that year, this is what I plan on doing. I wrote a few posts and never really got the info I was looking for which you just gave me. Thanks again!!

i like it, show a little more dodge emblem and follow the contour lines some more, very nice. is the commins 24 valve plasmaed in? i don't know about the spelling of plasmaed:-laf

I am interested in how these bumpers are mounted. They look realy cool and are probley way stronger than stock, but do they use the same stock holes for mounting? Bigger Bolts? Also, how do replacement rear bumpers support so much weight? Do they mount to the same holes as the hitch/bumper/both?

Thanks for the insight.

I've got the buckstop bumper posted earlier. Yes it uses the same holes as stock, as well as about every other hole on the front end. Yes it uses bigger bolts, it bolts thru the front frame rails as well as to the front crossmember. There are two 1/4" triangular pieces of steel that bolt between the frame rail and front crossmember to tie everything together.

I'll see if I can get some pics for you.
