Ok I had posted about my accident now, can someone please gives me some ideas, pics, links on aftermarket bumpers that look good hopefully around the same cost as the stock one. Thanks to all.

How much does a stock bumper cost?

All of the aftermarket stuff seems to start at about $1200 and go up from there or at least everything I was looking at did.

www.ranchhand.com

I am running a Ranchhand Front-end replacement on mine ('99 2X4 5spd). Paid $720 installed in December 2000. I wanted the ranchhand because it is well built and I murdered 3 dear and one road sign in 7 years with the 1992 stock front end - the bodyshop route got expensive. :--)

It adds a good bit of weight to the frontend, and I have been thinking that I would not put one on the next truck because of the extra weight (maybe the ranchhand grille guard with a piece of pipe welded to it in front of the factory bumper (less weight??? I will weigh both before I do anything)), but I have not had any problems due to the extra weight.

My $0. 02.

:D

Try John West

John West built the front bumper for my truck, it's stout and looks better then the factory bumper. It may cost less then the others as well. He's listed in the classifieds and can e-mail you pictures of Rams with his bumpers on them.

rashwor

I would gladly pay that for a Ranchhand , I called them at the main place and they said 1475 front and 700 rear??? washup with that:-{}

Hey Whitmore... I was setting in my truck at Walmart in Billings when a guy with a custom bumper on his Dodge pulled in beside me. I got out and talked to him about it. He said a welding shop in Billings run by a crippled guy, a Vietnam vet I think, made it and installed it for $800. Sorry I can't remember the name of the shop.

Bigstick,

I doubt if your going to find a front bumper for the same price or lower than the factory one. I did the same thing about a month ago. Looked at Ruenel, Denver Offroad, ARB, Warn, Supercraft just to name a few. I am currently having one bulit by John West. I liked the looks of his plus I have yet to need a winch mount for my truck. His come with a built in 2 inch receiver which suits me fine. Check his ad in the classifieds.

I checked out all of the bumper brands listed above and then some. I decided to go with the denver offroad bumper because it was 1/2 the weight as the steel bumpers because it's made of a aluminum ,and would'nt compromise my front end components, and no chance of rusting which is big in my part of town. Definetly burly enough to withstand some good hits. You should check the sight out in the classifieds, just my . 02 worth.

Bigstick,

I will be the third to recommend the John West bumper. I have the experimental model on my truck. I can send you pictures or he can also. His bumper is fairly lightweight, much stronger than factory, and looks good. It fits my needs fine. Some of the heavy bumpers look about as good as bolting a W21x57 to the truck and weigh almost as much. Each brand has its advantages and disadvantages, but John's works good for me.

Good luck with your choice.

mstimac,

Your bumper is looking good. I got to see some of it today.

Is it safe to assume that we can't get a good quality aftermarket bumper that looks 1/2-way decent for less than torque convertor cost??!!

I have yet to find anything for less than $1200!!!!!!!

I just got in a wreck yesterday @ 2AM - rear-ended by a drunk POS in a Taurus... . so I need new front/rear bumpers... . hoping I can convince insurance that OEM is bad.....

Matt-

You shouldn't need to convince the insurance company of anything. Get a couple of estimates and tell the insurance company you want the check to get the work done on your own! I have done this once before to get a bumper, too! As long as the claim is settled, I don't know why the insurance company would care. Good Luck, hope the POS's POS Taurus is totalled:mad:

Sorry to hear about your wreck...

Sorry to hear about your wreck. I hope you are ok! A drunk driver helped total my '92. It took a month of driving a ford taurus rental car at their expense and me refusing to release the '92 to the insurance company to get the money I wanted for the '92. :-{} :-{} I then turned around and bought the '92 back from the insurance company (cheap) and repaired it myself. Still rolling today with 242,000 miles. Also got enough out of them to help with the downpayment on the '99 I am driving now. :D

You should be able to get a ranchhand (www.ranchhand.com) frontend replacement for less than $1200 (if you like them). I put one on the '99 in December 2000 for $720 installed. The one thing I will say about the ranchhand is that it is very heavy on the Dodge front end. It may be heavier than what you want, but I personally have not had any frontend problems with the '99 yet.

I don't want a 400+# front bumper... that's for sure.

The Road-Armor bumpers are soooooh nice, though.....

I hope it all works out in the end.

The POS's POS Taurus is beyond any repair. He side-swiped a guy at the accident that I drove around that had happened about 2 minutes prior to me coming up on it. Then he left that scene and rear-ended me @ 50mph while I was sitting completely stopped at a stop light..... I hit the guy in front of me, and while exchanging info with that guy... . the POS left my accident scene as well!!! The law has him... . let's just hope he pays!!

I want new bumpers... amongst other things..... out of this accident.

What JR2 said, the UTE is Sweeeet.

Unfortunatly it's pretty pricey. I was quoted over 1800. And supposidly when they get a quantidy order, theyre supposed to be over 1600.

I still want one. Nothing could compare in the looks dept.

I saw one on a phord. Built like a brick $^!thouse.
