Hey all,
I recently bought a 2002 Ram 2500 Quad Cab with the HO Diesel and 6 speed. The previous owner put on a fairly big set of tires. They are BFG All Terrain TA KOs. The size is 315-75R16 on the factory wheels. According to the tire specs on the BFG Website, these are only a few mm's smaller in both diameter and width than 35x12. 5's of the same tire.
They seem to be a decent size on this truck. I'm not sure if it has a small lift or not (it does not appear to, as most suspension pieces look stock) but the tires look good, and the truck sits quite a bit taller than most other 2500s I see around town.
I only have one issue with the tires the way the truck is, and that is that they rub quite sharply on the stock stamped/formed steel lower control arms when turning sharply.
I was wondering what my options were to decrease some of this rubbing/possible damage to the tires.
Here were some of my thoughts, please let me know what you think would be best:
-Tubular Contol Arms - possibly they are smaller diameter, so that would give some more space, but since they are round, they would bite the tire less than the stock formed piece's edge does.
-New wheels with larger backspacing so the tires are further out to start with
-Does anyone make custom control arms that have bends specifically to increase tire clearance?
-Put up with the larger turning radius (Which isn't too bad) and just be careful when turning sharp in parking lots etc...
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
PS: Does anyone know how I can tell if a lift kit has been put in and hidden with black paint?
