Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Front crankshaft seal - help!

I just changed my front driveshaft seal to find out that the crank had a groove in it. As it turns out, my new seal leaks and the cummins dealer told me they offer a front seal AND a crank repair kist that is actually a metal sleeve that is press fit over the the end of the crank. The cost for the seal with the sleeve is around $50. Here's the kicker, you need a $250 special tool to install the sleeve. Does anyonje have one they are willing to loan out or have another way to do it????

Usually you can position the new seal at a different depth in the cover so it rides on a fresh area of the crank. Hope this helps.

What is the tool? Can't you just put the sleeve in the oven to expand it a little bit, wrap the crank snout with an ice pack to chill it out a bit and hammer it on? Kinda like installing a cylinder sleeve in a early model big block Chevy?

Try pressing the seal into the cover so that it does not ride in the groove before resorting to the sleeve. Lots of room to wear another groove or two.
