My front seal is leaking again a couple of years after my KDP tab job. I'm going to take off the front cover and press the seal in with a vise instead of the way outlined in the manual which is very hard to do without getting it in crooked. I can also inspect my tab to see if it's OK.

Here's the same question I had 2 years ago except now I bet the correct answer is out there. That extra seal or slinger which is included in the seal kit. Where does it belong? Inside or outside? It has a flat side and a side with a lip. When I install it in the correct place which side faces out towards the front of the truck? The darn thing is not shown in the service manual since it's an improvement.

Thanks in advance for your help...

I know what you are talking about and it is called a dust cover for the seal. I can't remember if I put mine on when I did my KDP, but it can be run with or without it. Not sure how it goes on since it is not described how. I think the Peirs instructions have a good description of how it is supposed to go, but if I remember correctly it goes on before you re-install the vibration damper and it is supposed to keep the crank seal dust and dirt free. Not really needed, IMO, unless you are doing mud bogs every other day or something.

Duh!!

I found the answer by doing a search which I should have done first before asking the question.

The answer is, it's a dust cover, it goes on the outside after the seal is installed and the flat side faces out.
