So I've seen somewhere that the front D60 on my ram has a "Ram-Trac Axle Disconnect" also known as a "Center Axle Disconnect" in it. I'm looking for as detailed explanation that I can get about what that is.

I'm familiar with the concept of how the 87-97 jeeps did it with the two piece axle on the long side and the vacume activated locking collar. But you could see that behind the axle tube on the long side. I can't see anything like that on mine.

Thanks,

Damon

on the right side of the truck, there should be a thing mounted on the rear of the axle tube. It has a couple of small hoses and and wires to it. that is the sliding collar cover for the axle. Some people have replaced this with either a full manual axle or did a manual disconnect with a cable push-pull setup.

You can definately see it on my axle. Interestingly enough, you're not the first person to be unable to find it on a new truck. There was talk of a different system being used, anybody know anything about it.

Another Dropped Feature

There was a thread a while ago regarding the front axle on the new 4x4 trucks. Seems like DC did away with the sliding collar arangement.

good news/bad news

ell the good news is that I just went out and looked at another guys '99 at work. He definitely has the disconnect and it was very obvious. I don't have anything like that, just bare tube where it is on his. Good because the two piece axles are a weaker design. (assuming that they didn't come up with a different design and just put in one piece axles)

The "bad" news is that it's probably a lot harder to get a 2WD low set up because you can't just tap into that line. Oh well.
