I Dont know why they do it, But Both Mine and My Buddies 1998's did puke out some Diff lube on a long trip to Montana 3 months after we both bought the trucks. I have 70k miles on the truck, and have not expirienced the Puking Diff syndrome since new. I have Changed the Diff Lube at 35k and 68k. No Problem anymore.

Got real cold here the other night. I noticed a strong gear oil smell and saw the puddle on the driveway. My 99's front diff. puked oil out of the vent tube. This never happened before in past winters or summers. Why now??? I thought it only does this with altitude changes and heat. Anyone have this happen and is it normal?? Help!!

It may be full of water and floated the oil out of the vent tube??????????????

It could be the oil in the diff is foaming that much on a longer trip to puke some out the vent tube. If this is the case the oil should be changed ASAP as this much foaming is unaccpetbale and the oil will provide less protection to the diff because of it.

Seems to me like I seen a thread similar to this a while back? You might try a search.
