'04 3/4 ton 4 door 6 speed long box.

The front doors have had way too much wind noise from day one. The dealer has had no fixes. A couple of months ago, I spotted a new ’06, and was thrilled to see the new door seal design, with the hard wind blocking material added between the windshield and the leading edge of the door, where that nasty ¾ inch gap gets all the wind from the glass. I had the dealer install these on my truck and the noise is all but gone. A great improvement. Now I can drive 70 and talk to the wife. Before, we pretty much limited the truck to 60, unless there was a crosswind, which made things much worse. The dealer did this under warranty, too. No charge.

I have a new 06 Mega Cab and at 60 ro 70 and a strong wind, I get some wind noise when you can feel a wind gust. I have only noticed this on the drivers front door. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

Wind Noise Door

2004. 5, 2500 Quad Cab. Trouble since day one with wind noise, at speeds above 60. Hits driver's door first, passenger door if wind continues at angle or if temperature is cold. Local dealer did not know anything about this. I heard there is a procedure to re-align door hinges, if this will solve trouble than I am grateful. Noise ruins otherwise peaceful driving experience.

The door wind noise thing seems to be hit-or-miss. Some people have it really bad, others don't. On my truck, there's no noise except in the most severe cross-winds, and even then only during strong gusts.

I only get a little leaking when confronted with 40mph+ side gusts... I did have the TSB seal (replacement for the torn seals) installed on my truck, but they are not much different than the others. Mine is also only a std cab.

hey steved, when did you do that tsb? I thought I heard somewhere, a while ago now, that there was a tsb right away but if you waited a little bit there was going to be a new design with the tsb.

I did that TSB in early 05 (same time I had the leaking CP3 replaced). The door seal was an updated part, but wasn't much different than the old one (made of rubber, not foam).

I had both door seals replaced on the 04 under the TSB. The drivers side needed it and I helped the passenger side need it since it is rarely used. No sense in not getting something fixed that is going to need fixing eventually.

If I'm not mistaken the noise TSB was a triangle shaped piece of black open cell foam that is installed on the body side about where the window and hood meet. It is under the door when closed.

Yup, even after three different sets of seals

I complained the last time I brought it in for warranty work. Got the latest and greatest seals and still have a driver's door air leak in crosswinds. For those of us that live in the windy flatland, it's a common occurance to have 30+mph crosswinds and the wind whistling in the cab is getting old.

There are threads describing the removal of the shims in the door hinges - so I might have my local body shop fix it when I get my flares installed.

I have an '03, and had the tsb done for the tearing on the weather strip. I've had wind noise since day 1. I saw the '06 design, and think that'll make a big diff, when I go in tomorrow to get mt front pinion seal replaced, I'll ask if he can get me the '06 seal tomorrow.
