Has anyone ever had to replace the front CV joint? Mine is shot and I need to know where I should get parts or what I should do about it. Thanks in advance.

is it so bad that you need a full rebuild or just new u-joints in it? by full rebuild I mean the inner ball/race/seals and the joints.

edit: do you need more clearance or upgrade in size/strength as well?

I am having mine done locally here. The joint is worn and the cost to replace it was out of line from the dealership. The diesel shop thats doing mine is replacing mine with a driveshaft and eliminating the CV joint completely..... Andy

I had that same problem with my 94. I took the front shaft to a local driveshaft/powertrain shop and they rebuilt the cv joint and replaced other u-joints on the front shaft for under $200. Made nite and day difference. No more vibration.

i would recommend sticking with a CV setup. depending on the angles your driveshaft encounters, a regular setup single cardan setup may not work for you. even if it did work, it might not last long as the life decreases with increased operating angles.

just rebuild your CV. if you dont want to do it yourself, take it to a driveshaft shop and have them do it and also rebalance it for you.
