I thought I had posted before but couldn't find it.

My front drive shaft where it attaches to the transfer case output keeps loosening up. I crank the bolts down and within a couple hundred miles of plowing and 4x4 use, they back off again.

The first time I noticed them was at lube/oil change inspection and I thought I just forgot to tighten them. I felt a vibration a couple weeks ago and found they were loose again. A couple days ago, I felt another vibration (acceleration rather than deceleration) but it was the same bolts again.

Think Lock-Tite will be enough? Do I need to clean, dry and thaw it out first? Any help or suggestions welcomed. Thanks

(ready to tack it on w/welder if necessary  )

Whats probably happened is you have egg shaped the bolt holes on the drive shaft flange. When this has happened the bolts will never stay tight.

loose bolts

I have had my trans and transfer case out a few times. Each time I used blue (medium strength) loctite on the flange bolt holes and sprayed the bolts with another loctite product called clean and prime. Definitely let the parts thaw out and have them clean and dry. I also use a torque wrench for tightening, if I had my manual handy I'd post the torque spec.
