5 inch exhaust tip question...

Bedslide - Good product

I found a vendor who makes steel leveling kits for the front of our (2nd gen) trucks. These are similar to the leveling kit offered by Ruff Country but are machined out of a single piece of material instead of welded up parts (except for the mounting studs). I asked if they would be interested in discounting them for a group and got the "it depends on how many" answer.

I won't know a price until they know how many are desired. They have 1" and 2" available.

I'm getting a 1" so I can install my front Mag-Hytec with my Linstead trac bar repair and not have it hit. I will need to put a 1" spacer under the bump stops too.

If you are interested, post what size and I'll PM you with prices if we get enough interest. All purchases will be handled through the manufacturer, I'm going to get one anyway and thought I'd see if we could save some money for other BOMBs.

I have been watching these on ebay for about a month. There a couple of them listed and they are well under $150. If we can get them for less, I would be intersted. Say maybe $100 for the two inch.

A leveling kit sounds self explanatory... Is it similar to a lift kit (except that it is installed on the front only?) How/ where are these devices installed. Does the choice of 1" or 2" depend on tire size (or just owner preference?) I might be interested. Thank you. -frank

Should be $119. 00 for the 2" lift

here

Not Jack-it but similar (different state). Here is another pic to hopefully answer a few more questions.

1" or 2" is up to you, I'm going with 1" just to install my Mag-Hytec. I checked my truck with a floor jack and level and 2" would make it sit almost dead level. But if I did haul anything the back might droop. Again, my preference. If I had a SRW and big tires and didn't pull anything, I'd probably go for the 2".

The vendor is in Oregon and they charge a flat fee of $17 for shipping. These are the same as available on e-bay but I think they might do us better on price if there is enough interest.

As for the install, I don't know the details but for the 2" it might be a little involved. Dieselboy25, any comments?

This looks to be going pretty good so far. I'll e-mail them a link to this page so they can see how many are interested.

Thanks everyone!

1. How do I check my truck with a floor jack?

2. I do have a SRW with big tires.

3. How hard of a install is this? Can it be done at home with hand/air tools?

Yes I am interested in the 2in leveling kit. Oo.

you will need to rent a spring compressor

and the trac bar needs to be disconnected and adjusted.

I've talked to a few members that would not do it again :(

Bob,

Do you need a spring compressor? Shouldn't the axle drop enough if you diconnect sway bar, track bar, and shocks? Brake lines are a question but won't know until you see how far the axle has to drop to pull the springs out.

I helped someone install 2. 5" lift coil springs, which is similar, we needed to disconnect the sway bar, track bar, brake lines, shocks, and the lower trailing arms and it was still a pain, removing the upper trailing arms would've helped. I can see how just adding the spacer would be easier though, and a spring compressor wouldnt hurt.

Spring compressors would help. The Auto Zone near me loans tools like this for free.

Unbolting the trac and sway bars would also probably be required. As for the brakes, I would recommend unbolting the caliper instead of opening up the hydraulic circuit.

A) Park your truck on a level surface.

B) Measure the distance from the ground to the edge of the wheel opening at the front and rear on one side of the truck. Di this as close to the center of the wheel as possible. On some vehicles, I'll put a piece of masking tape on the fender and measure to it.

3) Start to raise the side of the truck you took the measurements on. Place your level (the longer the better) on the bottom edge of the rocker panel. When it's level, take another set of measurements.

4) The amount of lift required will be the amount you raised the front og the truck PLUS the amount the rear cam down (if at all).

The back of my '94 3500 didn't drop at all and 2" was level.

Yes, it will be able to be done with air tools. It shouldn't be too hard but it will probably take some time. I'm looking into getting together a set of instructions.
