I have a question for all of you who have had this problem. The truck is an 2005 3500 QC auto srw 4x2 that makes a rather ugly sound at times. I have serched this problem on the TDR which seems to be common with 4x4 but not 4x2's. I have read the information on recall E10 in which the front springs are replaced. My VIN when checked online or at the dealer does not show that this recall applys to me. The truck has a build date of Dec 04. I have taken the truck to the dealer twice and they tightened the bolts on the control arms which I must say made the steering feel tighter and more secure... . but the pop in the front is still there. So you guys know, the pop or clunk occurs when turing lock to lock mosty right and sometimes left. It will occur at times when entering a parking garage with an elevated floor just as well. I will get under the truck this weekend to see if something is out of the ordinary, Any and all input is greatly appeciated.

Richard :)

I had a similiar problem, I took it to the dealer 3 times for the problem until they finally fixed it right. Three technicians went out in the truck for a drive to pinpoint where the noise came from. Thay said it was interference between a body panel and the hood. I have not heard the noise since.

I also have this problem on my '03, but have not been in to a dealer to have it checked out. Someone posted on another forum that their dealer claimed it was lack of grease on the steering stops. I haven't tried adding grease to mine yet to see if the noise goes away.

I'd be interested in hearing what body panel might have been interfering with the hood. The sound is definitely horrible when it happens. Mine occurs only on sharp right turns at slow speeds, but never during left turns.

Yeah, i doubt that for me it is any body panel is rubing and like you it mostly occurs when turing right. I will be back at the dealer Mon to see what happens. I still feel like the front springs are culprit.

I just looked at my service report and it states that they lubed up the stops and adjusted the fender to hood. The problem has not appeared since that service in September. From the noise that I heard I never would have thought that would be the problem, but obviously it was. It almost sounded like a bad body mount or failed bushing somewhere.

raychem - Mine does the same, mostly full lock right. It makes the pop when I pull in the carport with a 1. 5 inch ledge step up coming off the gravel drive. I may try the lube trick and report back. Just wanted to say thanks to the guys who have made the numerous trips to the dealer and other folks who expended effort on this.

Well at least I know I am not the only one. I will be under the truck tomorrow to see if I find something suspicious. Keep you posted.

oilburner, was your clunk happening at full right lock, or during normal slow turns that were not at full lock? I'm having this happen and I'm trying to track down the cause. Thanks!

Update: I put some grease on the steering stops and the noise has gone away. It was on hard right turns to full lock at slow speeds to full lock.
