I have a 2001 Ram 2500 4x2 with the Cummins Diesel. Quad Cab, Long Bed. I'm looking at placing something like a Ranch Hand replacement bumper on the front end. My questions are: 1) with the weight of the engine will this effect in a negative way how the truck handles? 2) with the truck being a 4x2, it doesn't sit as high as the 4x4 in the front, will it just put too much weight on the frontend and make it too low? They look good on the 4x4's but I'm not to sure about the 4x2's. Thanks Mike

Welcome to the TDR - here's a few links for you. You can do your own search also for more detail. I've been thinking about something "moose-resistant" for my truck too, but that might be too much weight. ;)

Try Tough Country

This is the bumper I run on my truck. Checked for another member and current price is somewhere around $795. 00 for the deluxe front replacement depending on options. It weighs about 200 lbs.

They are located in El Campo, Tx, but might have a dealer closer to you.

Hey Guys, thanks for the suggestions....

About the only other question I have is since it looks like most of ya'll have 4x4's are these replacement bumpers just meant for them. Looks like I should have bought a 4x4 instead of a 4x2. Even though I really don't have a use for one right now.

Thanks for your info.

I've had the my Ranchhand on for the last year and half and can't say enough good things about it. I love the fact that I can fix rock chips etc with a can of Krylon Gloss Black.

Funny thing is that I had at least one critter close call/strike a month right up until I installed the Ranchhand, it's been at least a year since I drove through a herd of elk!

If your worried about sagging the front end just have someone who ways around 220#'s stand on the front bumper of your truck, and measure the deflection. I doubt it'll be much at all.

I have a Ranch Hand on my 99 3/4 5 speed. Haven't had a minutes problem. Could'nt tell any difference after it was swapped out. I think you will be happy with it. As Eastwood says "Make my day. Pull out in front of me. You will loose bigtime. " I have had several cars think twice before pulling out in front of me. They love to do that in Houston.

I have been wanting Ranchands front and back for a year now , I finally got the price down 900 front and 500 rear,? is this a good deal? will be ordering in 2 weeks... ... ... . Kevin

frontend handling question.....

Erin, thanks for your input.

Have you noticed any major difference in handling since you've put the RanchHand on?

Thanks, Mike

No handling changes really. It's not like it handled like a sports car to begin with though. It is nice having the extra approach angle, and people tend to get out of the left lane quickly.
