Ok I spent all day on this site yesterday, after getting my password, looking for front end noise fixes. Well after reading where to look and what to check for heres what I found. My truck now has 166k AND..... my entire steering linkage from the box to the wheels is SHOT! AND my passenger ball joints have almost 1" of play with the truck off the ground. So as of today my truck is in the driveway until the new parts come in. Does anyone know of the best place to get the tie rods. I stopped a Advance Auto on the way home and they are clueless to what parts my truck needs. Any help pointing me into the right place for parts would be great! You guys are great! This could have ended up in with wrecked truck.

Welcome to the TDR

I usually deal with the auto part stores that Mechanic shops use Carquest, Napa ect they are a lot better at finding this kind of stuff. Also if you do a search (search button down a little from top right corner) you will find posts with some web suppliers.

This is not uncommon as the front ends are the bad point of these trucks, I buy the parts that have lifetime warranty on them in the long run it really helps keep the price down.

good luck

Joe

How is your front end, did you get every thing apart and back together.

This past weekend I wound up changing my drive side wheel bearing, 6k ago I had new tires put on and the bearing was ok. this weekend did a tire rotation and bearing was toast came apart pretty good as It had been anti-seized during assembly last time I had it apart.

The wheel bearing is usually the worst part of the disasembly don't be afraid to ask questions on it because they usually seem like they are not ment to come apart, if you use a puller on the outside or on the rotor you will most likely ruin the bearing, I paid $182 for the one I replaced this past weekend.

No, still not done. I haven't been working on it lately. I have the new ball joints on the one side. I cleaned up the knuckle really good, just waiting for the new hub to get here. And I will be useing anti-seize when I put it back together. I'm going to see if I can get the hub off the other side tonight.

I'm been driving the girlfriend's 98' 1500 4x4 while mine is down. Her front end feels worse than mine did. I experienced the Death Wobble for the first time this week. I hit a bump doing about 75 and the thing started shaking like crazy. I got on the brakes and it stopped. Its a good thing I knew what it was from reading so many posts about it.
