Gary Croyle, is this you???

We're getting a new front door. One of the problems with the old door (metal) is that the glue that holds the piece with the glass window runs down the front of the door, especially in the summer. We have a southern exposure and uncovered. So, it is always in the sun.

The new door will be fiberglass. Home depot says the new door will not have the problem of the glue melting and running down. Anyone have any experience with this ?

Only when the fiberglass delam's and your picking fiberglass slivers from your hand. Other than that THEY'RE GREAT!!!!

Im not concerned about the actual fiberglass, its the glue that holds that piece that holds the window in place where weve had the glue run before

They used hot-melt glue instead of a polyurethane based caulk/sealer?

FWIW, I found a really good caulk recently. I needed to reseal the font at my church. The caulk the installer used only got two days to cure and it never did. (They said two days, but it really needed more like a day per mm or two.)

I found Boat Life's Life Seal. It's a polyurethane/silicone blend and can be applied under water. (The font was drained and dry when I applied it.) The polyurethane improves adhesion. It's supposed to cure in a day; I gave it three. The font doesn't leak any more, but we'll see what happens the next time we turn the heater on.

I dont know what kind of glue they use in the new door. Salesman says it is a silicon based glue and wont run. But I dont know if he was lying to me or not. His lips were moving
