Are there any tricks to getting out the front hub bearing on a 2001 4wd? I tried tapping, ha ha, it out but it doesn't want to budge. Right now I am soaking it in penetrating oil and was going to take a hammer and chiesel to it.

with the rotor off the bearings should fall out its the races that are the problem. the"non hub locking front ends" are like the ones from the 70's same theory,i believe they have to be pressed in and out,a motor shop, napa, might help you. good luck

I used a slide hammer type puller to get my earlier 2nd gen bearing out the first time. I have read about folks loosening the bolts and then turning the steering (with the engine running) and using shaft between the bolt and something not moving to "press" it out. I think that would work on the later style hubs too.

Clean the rust off and coat everything (including the splines) with copper anti-sieze and next time it will slide apart like it's new.

When I pulled mine out I had to borrow a puller (MAC Tool) from the dealer or I would of been screwed. Just did a 1/2 ton and the bearings fell out on both sides! Go figure...
