Left front (knukle) u-joint has play?

Baer or EBC brakes?

When I turn the steering wheel and move the truck I hear a clicking noise in the left front hub. Steering wheel does not jerk like a bad universal, and when jacked up the sound seems to be in the dust shield area.

Could this be a spindle/hub bearing going bad?

Thanks for any info.

Could well be the bearing, you don't say how many miles are on the truck, BUT, I think I would jack up the front end and spin each wheel, and look and listen for somthing hitting the dust shield. Could well be a rock bounced up and hit the shield and bent it, or any one of a dozen other things. Even the bolts that hold the shield and bearing assembly could be loose. One other trick is to use a mechanics stethoscope to listen and isolate sounds.

Does it squeak at all? If so, it could be a pebble that got itself lodged in there from a gravel road. That happens quite frequently on my work Ford.

Mine did the same with no wheel jerk and my joint was bad. I took it in under warranty and the dealer said there was not enough grease in it from the factory. Replaced it and all was good again.

Checked it out and the left front ujoint is covered in rust dust. So even though wheel never jerked when turning I can see the rollers are toast. Goes in for power train warranty with a $100 deductible? Can't figure that out thought it was a plain warranty at 55000 miles?

I've had front axle joints go bad without any symptoms whatsoever too. In fact, the front right joint in my truck has had play in it for about two years now and is not noticeable. I'll fix it when it gets worse. It is not the original and it is grease-able, but it only lasted less than 10,000 miles.
