front hub

Iv'e got a problem. My front hub is all wallowed out. The race on the outer bearing just rattles back and forth, I think the problem started when I blew a left front tire at 70 and off the side of the road and landed in 2' of mud. The mud probobly kept me from rolling it since it stopped me quick. Anyways I need to Get a new hub and the only source Iv'e found is the dealer,ouch almost $500. Can't find one in a local junk yard. Any help would be greatly appreacated Thanks Mike

I had a problem with the front bearings on my truck. THe right front outer bearing disinegrated on my truck. It welded the inner race to the axle stub. We had to torch the old race off. Then I had the shop weld the stub up with special welding rods. Then it was turned back down to size. I had less than $100 in the welding and turning and it was well worth the money.



Now for your specific problem, could you have the hub welded and turned down? My neighbor is a machinist and he will knurl something where a race fits too loose. A good machine/welding shop should be able to fix you much cheaper than a new hub. Hope this helps you out a bit. Feel free to e-mail me with questions.
