Well I got my front nut that holds the rotor to the axle today from the stealer. They said they didn't have it but when I called back and talked to another guy, they had 6 of 'em for 1/2 the price!

I need to know the torque specs for the bolt though so it doesn't fall out again. Thanks guys.

Maximus-

I'm talking about the 4 nuts behind the wheel that hold the rotor to the axle housing. You're thinking about the nut in the center of the rotor that does have a cotter pin. Thanks for that spec though: I needed that too!

I got 3 different specs on those. 50fp from one location, 85 from a dealer, and 90 from another dealer.

I torqued my to 100 just to be safe.

Hey azcummins,

When you sell that truck of yers, I wana buy it. You seem to take pretty good care of it, torquen' everthing to specs-n-all. :D I torque two things on my truck, the wheels and the HEAD, everything else just get's tightend. :D ;)

Later ,Rob

I've never seen a spec given for the rotor hub bolts. Manual just says to tighten securely. 50 ft/lbs would be about right. You should use Loc-Tite 242 (blue) on them.

Rob-

You can buy the truck, but I'll have to charge you extra for the surgery on my shoulder from torquing all those bolts! :D :D

Thanks for your help guys, I'm going to buy some loc-tite today.

When I took out the bolts they where way tighter than 50fp. I would guess it took about 150fp to get them loose. I had to put a breaker bar on them to loosen them.

I have been warned, "if you don't get them tight enough you will garbage the hubs"

A brake shop I talked to said they put an impact hammer on them to tighten them. That would make me think they tighten them to over 100fp.

I plan on a re-torque this weekend on those bolts since I tightened them last weekend. If I had put lock-tight on them I wouldn't be able to do that!

Thats my 2cents!

Good luck AZ

Maximus, it probably took 150 ft/lbs to break them loose because they had loc-tite. Shouldn't need to retorque with loc-tite. 100 ft/lbs seems awfully high for a bolt that size. Just my 2¢ also

97 Service Manual says 170 ft lbs for the Axle nut and 125 ft lbs for Hub to Knuckle bolts. (The 4-12 point bolts)

There was no loc-tite on them. I cleaned everything before I put it back together. I would have noticed.

I have been planning on purchasing a Dodge Service Manaual about $110 after shipping and tax. I really need to get one!
