GHarm, if your tensioner spring is good, try getting just the pulley... Geno's has the Dayco 36904 pulley for less than $20.... I keep them in stock, as usually, the spring isn't bad. Same pulley 89-02....

Glad you found the culprit... those dang noises drive me up the wall.... I should be able to climb like a squirrel by now!!

Silicones are a real problem. They are about insoluble in all common solvents and will leave residue. When Union Carbide made silicones in Sistersville, WV, they had to clean the beakers and other glassware with boiling alcoholic potassium hydroxide, which also etched the glass of course.

I can back that up as well. We had a powder coating line at the steering shaft factory (where they make the shafts for the 2nd gen and newer trucks) and we had to remove all silicone spray out of the factory. Even if it was used in the opposite corner of the shop it would contaminate the cleaning tanks in the paint line. They would have to shut down the line and scrub the tanks. Once you get silicone on a surface you'll never be able to paint it.

The only place I use silicone is on the snowblower chute and augers.

Well, The new Cummins serpentine belt tensioner is installed with a new Gates HD serpentine belt.
That much is accomplished. I bought a Dayco pulley separately just in case. May replace the pulley on the original tensioner and keep for a spare.

A note on Cummins parts service at Cummins Rocky Mountain. I was lead to believe, over the phone, in a conversation with a parts tech that the belt tensioner was available, in stock, for $138.49. He even gave me a part number. So I drove down there on Thursday afternoon and talked with John at the counter. "We do not have that part in stock, but it costs $80+ . I told him about the conversation I had with the parts man , over the phone. John told me that he would ship the part, free(normally $30), and it would be there on Friday! It was!
