mine is also leaking at 56k on the odometer. I am looking at the seal sitting on my desk (aam # 40017140). Should have done it tonite but much funner installing cool intake kit, cool blue hose and tag 3. :-laf
I am about to go out to the garage and replace my front pinion seal so I thought I'd do a quick search and see how common this is—pretty common, I see. I only have 53k miles on mine.
Man, it looks like I've got a streak of bad luck... Just this week I found my front pinion seal leaking, my wife's rear pinion seal AND front, left axle seal leaking on her Jeep Liberty, AND my Father-in-law's front, right axle seal leaking on his `99 Ram 2500! I went to NAPA to order all the seals and they asked me what the hell I was doing to kill all these seals!
Looks like my fix was a success. I used a NAPA seal #20459 to fix my front pinion seal leak on the truck in my signature. We'll see how long it lasts. I'll post back if/when it goes again.
Replaced mine 2 weeks ago at 112,000 miles, Been leaking a little for about 15000 miles, but the oil was just below the plug about 1/4 ", I use Amsoil, been using it for about 80,000 miles, Bought aftermarket one off Ebay for 15. 00 includes S&H
