This is for the bushing on the frame. How do you get the old ones out? Yea I know they push out but on each side there is a flange, so get a grinder and grind one side of the flange off? This ought to be fun. I've go the new bushing on order, dealer item, so when they get here that will explain some things, I hope.

New bushings

Just got the new bushings.

Cant belive that no one has ever replaces these. But I can understand, they are hidden by the shakles and there factory only. Heres a look at the new ones. Dodge part no. 02953700 for the 1 inch dia. Takes 2 per side.

I thinking there are lot of 1st gen Dodges out there that are running metal to metal on these bushings because they don't last forever.

Steve. I removed these bushing from a 1978 3/4 TON 4X4 couple of years ago. I read a blurb about how to do it that said to use a small drill bit to drill out the rubber portion of the bushing. Paln on using a few cheapie bits, because I broke a couple. After getting rid of SOME of the rubber you might be able to grab the "center" steel section. I pushed, pulled and twisted on mine and it did finally give. After that you can collapse the outer steel portion, hopefully.

Hope this helps!

Front shackel bushings

I replaced those on my burb

You can go to www.offroaddesing.com they have pics on there site

they sell greae able shackels for chevy and the bolts plus heavy duty shackels , but upon closer examination the bushings they sell , poly urthane

ones are the same as the ones Superlift sells and are fluted for the grease

buy the bolts from them and the shackels .

But how do get them out take a blow torch and heat the rubber to they smoke and start to bubble and take a punch and push them out , care full the rubber is hot

then sand smmooth grease the bushings and install

Thanks guys,

Now that I know that the sleeve with the flange on it does have to come out, I think I'll use brute force. I'll cut some round stock off for the plug, weld it to the end of the sleeve and then beat it out from the other side of the frame. Then the remaining sleeve will (should) be easy to get to. Well that's the plan any way.

have a good new years celeabration!

Just to finish up,
I did find that welding a plug over the end was the easiest and quickest way to remove the old schackle bushings. Then use a long drift and beat the crap out of it and eventualy it comes out. On the pasenger side I had to remove the exhaust pipe to gain access. You can use a socket to install the new bushing, but be sure it has a tight fit around the rubber or you'll bend the flange and the bushing will not seat all the way in. I used a piece of 1/2" all thread to pull the bushings in. Be sure to lube the busings real good or it might jam half way in.

That's the same type of bushing that the 2WD uses for control arm pivots. You can also remove and install them using two sockets and a piece of allthread for form a press which you can use in place on the 2WD. Should work on the 4WD as well.

steve. i got these from skyjacker when i ordered my lift. i used a torch and a gallon of PB-blaster to get these little suckers out. the problem i had was the bolt was seized into the rubber. and you know how much friction rubber can cause. i had a 5 pound sledge and a torch, i burnt them till they were real weak and then scrapped a lot out with a screwdriver and pounded and pounded till it ripped out. their not fun ill tell ya that much. the ones skyjacker sent were polyurethane.

There is a guy in Newyork that makes bushings that take 5/8" geasible bolts look him up on the ram charger central i think he goes by red ram

My Problem is I want to stay STOCK . I don't want to have to Open the frame up to 2 in As that would mess up my Powder coating I just had done .
