I was working on my truck when i noticed my father 3500 4x4 diesel drivers front tire is just wearing on the outside. Supposedly his mechanic said that all the alignment specs are within spec. Everything seems tight any suggestions would be great. Thanx in advace Alex

  • Tell him to slow down on the corners!
  • Take the truck to another shop; something isn't right
Even if everything is within specs when it is sitting still, that doesn't necessarily mean it stays within specs on the road.

My truck drove like crap, even after the dealer did the whole chasis dynamics TSB on it.

One common problem is that the frame can flex when the steering box applies pressure to turn - and suddenly everything is NOT to spec. The DSS steering stabilizer stops that.

If there is any looseness in any of the steering components, they won't stay in-spec under a load.

Another common problem is a worn track bar, which will cause steering "wander" and the dreaded "death wobble" (just hit the "Forums" dropdown for the "Search" tool); but I don't think the track bar in itself will cause the tire wear that you described. Tires scuffed on the outside are caused by improper alignment or hard cornering.
