Went to my local dealer today and inquired about tow hooks. He wanted to sell them to me for $135. 00 a pair, or $113. 00 of my salesman went back there and purchased them for me (I have bought 3 Rams from him, 91’ 95’ and 01’).

Is there a dealer or location where I can get a better price on the 5,500 lb. front tow hooks? If enough of you are interested maybe we could get a group discount from these folks. I can check we with them tomorrow and get more information if there is an interest.

Michael

I was quoted the same - $135. I'd be interested in a discount.

One of the other posters has been mentioning http://www.Mopar4less.com . Haven't tried them myself and the site doesn't list prices. Can't hurt to call the toll free number.

Wow, 135. 00 for tow hooks???!!! You'd have to be out of your mind!! (sorry)

I just put 2 on my OTHER truck that I use for hunting and other forms of recreation, and I paid under $30 for the both of them. I picked them up at the local travel/RV suppy and repair shop and they had several sizes to choose from.

I just drilled and mounted them to the frame with grade 8 bolts and done in 30minutes.

Salvo... Some of Mopar 4 less's prices have been 45/50% of retail. . just an FYI
very much worth the call. .

Heetseeker, look under your Dodge and you'll see it isn't that easy. I had to fabriate an adaptor plate as well as cut holes in the spoiler to install my $30 hooks. It was alot cheaper than $135 though!

The Mopar tow hooks are a very well engineered system. The tow hook kit includes some extremely heavy-duty hooks and mounting brackets/hardware. The price seems real high until you see what you are paying for. I also feel the 5500 lb. rating per hook is REAL conservative.

Rual King has tow hooks rated at 10000 lbs 20. 00 or so for two.

Just found my receipt from 1995 for the DC tow hook kit from Kenyon Dodge in Clearwater, FL. Price was $98 list, and $75 plus tax for me (I was just passing thru). The kit is very beefy, with large mounting plates! I've used the truck to pull stumps with a chain run from both hooks to the stump; leave a little slack in the chain, put her in 4x4 low and pow! No more stump. The truck does buck a bit, but this helps the pulling power! On one of the larger stumps, the truck bucked up and sideways about 2' into another stump and blew out the sidewall of a new Goodyear tire. Was more careful after that. No bent hooks (or anything else) so far. I wouldn't try any of this with the $30 hooks.

The $30 hooks(actualy $12. 95 each)that I used ARE the the Dodge hooks from the dealer. I just made the mounting brackets myself and saved $105.

I paid roughly $110 for mine. I was griping the whole time until I went to pick up the box they came in..... I thought I was on Candid Camera and they had nailed it to the counter!

They are beefy - a good match for the torque that engine creates... . especially in 4low!

Why not go with a front mount receiver hitch. I got a Draw Tite for $ 106 it has two tow loops and you can use it a a step to work under the hood.

Just my . 02

weber,

DANG! That's what I should've done! I didn't realize they made them off the shelf - I though people were having them custom made! Can you describe where the hitch comes out? Below the bumper and air dam - or do you need to cut the air dam? Got pictures?

The hitch bolts under the front torsion bar brackets and all that sticks out under the bumper is the reciever. The tow loops don't protrude foward of the bumper. if you have an air dam then you will have to cut a hole for the receiver to stick thru.

If I knew how to attach a photo to this reply I will on monday when I get home. I need a help sheet to to do some of the advanced posting.

DANG! That's what I wanted... that way you could just insert a shackle like what I use on the rear.

Hey, anyone want to buy some towhooks? #ad

Nevermind, I alread cut the holes in my air dam. Oh well, I'll have both then I guess!

Thanks for the info web!

Here is why you need good tow hooks:
#ad

This happened a few weeks after the truck was new. The location is central Wyoming. It was about 40 degrees outside and the surface seemed quite hard, but about 4" under the crust is was like Vasiline! After an hour of other 4x4's trying to pull us out, we called a 4x4 tow truck. The tow truck driver asked if I had tow hooks and I said 'of course, it's a 4x4'. Well, I went to attach the cable and of course there were no tow hooks! This is the first 4x4 I've seen that didn't come with stock tow hooks. $120 later we were out and headed to town to the pressuse car wash. $15 in quarters later we had most of the mud off. Five years later I still get an occasional chunk of mug in the driveway to remind me of that day!
Not long after that day I bought the DC tow hooks, a large nylon tow strap, and snow chains.
