Something Weird with a 48RE

Prefilling An Oil Filter with Prefiltered Oil

Remove the front wheels (after jacking and supporting the vehicle of course) Remove the adapters, remove the brake calipers and support them on the adapters on the ground. Take a 5mm allen wrench and GENTLY remove the ABS sensor being careful not to damage the O ring. Take your greasegun hose tip off and replace with a rubber nipple(available at NAPA) Put Synthetic grease in the grease gun. Hold the nipple to the ABS sensor hole tightly and pump it full of grease. Turn the hub to distribute the grease. Pump it full until grease comes out around the seal. New seal will be harder to pump past. Do this to both front hubs/rotors. Replace the ABS sensor with O ring gently. Torque specs are in the service manual available from Geno's as are the directions and torque specs for removing the adapters and brake calipers. I don't have air tools so this is an all afternoon job for me. I have been doing it twice a year and have 332k on my truck. (2wd dually)

Did this last weekend, and wasn't too hard at all. Only problem was the "seal-off dispenser" I used on my grease gun. It's a Performance Tool item # W54214 (bought locally at Advance Auto Parts), and the rubber tip's OD (approx 3/8") was close to the ID of the ABS sensor hole, so I wasn't able to effectively seal the hole. After pumping approx 10 shots of grease, it pushed past the rubber tip. I wish it would have sealed tighter, therefore allowing me to pump grease until it (hopefully) pushed past the front/rear hub seal. Does anybody have a make/model # of seal-off dispenser with a larger OD rubber tip?

Understand what you mean, but because of the loose seal of the tip, really wasn't able to get much "into" the bearing I suspect. Still hoping somebody'll recommend a different seal-off dispenser.

The only downside I see to this suggestion is -- if you reside in a "road-salt-state" like NY, be very cautious of removing the ABS sensor... I have never successfully done-so... the body of the sensor gets stuck in the bore and breaks exposing the coil... and time for a new sensor... You fortunate-folks that do not see salt, sounds like a grand suggestion.
