I had to have the RT front wheel bearing including hub replaced at 48K because the 5 star dealer said the front bearing are not serviceable. The charge was $350 which I thought was a little steep but I had no choice as I was out of town. Later I see in the owners manual on page 214 it says that "front wheel bearings for all Dodge Ram Trucks are sealed-for-life". Then under the maintenance schedule "B" it states that at 60K to "inspect front wheel bearings. Clean and repack if required (4X2)". Am I missing something here??

You probably didn't get taken to hard considering that even at a discount parts store ex. Oreilly's, they want somewhere around $200 for the hub and bearing assembly and who knows where that part came from.

4X4's and it seems like some of the 2wd 1 tons used a sealed ball bearing which is NOT servicealble... most all other 2wd trucks used the "typical" tapered roller bearlings which ARE servicable.

That price doesn't sound too far off as the rotors are also pressed onto the hubs which are pressed into the bearings. So you either get a lot of labor, or a lot of parts wrapped up in it.

Hope this helps!

Half a million miles out of the bearings and you should be jumping up and down along with headstands. :D I only got 121K on mine and started hearing the bearing at about 116K. How are you people getting the bearing/hub for so cheap. List at the dealer is $327. 00 and even with a 15% discount I still paid $277. 00. Oh-well it is only money.
