I was inspecting my front brakes last weekend and noticed that one of the spacers was missing. About 2 months ago I had new tires put on and evidently the shop didn't care to put the left side back on. I know they were both there since I had the wheels off before I took it in.

My question. What is the purpose? I don't seem to have any brake clearance problems. I didn't notice it driving any different with one spacer in and one missing. Any help would be appreciated. We are leaving on a 2500 mile trip this weekend.

Thanks

they put them on my 94 when it was new to cure my pulling to the left while braking complaint. they are laying around here somewhere:rolleyes:

I am pretty sure both sides had them. I removed the right side also and haven't noticed any braking or steering differences. It would make sense to have only one if I had a "pulling to either side" problem.

Thanks for the help

There were three different plate thickness used sometimes with more than one plate used on a side. They were always only on one side. Perhaps one of the plates stuck to the back of a rim and got transferred to another wheel during a tire rotation. If your truck is tracking straight don't mess with it.

Just went throught this with DC. The plate is to correct the geometry of the fornt end. The plate come in various MM thickness. They are mounted on one side only. Mime is on the right side, there have been some on the left side. I guess Dodge can not put the fornt end together in close tolerances, thus the shim plate. There is a TSB on the subjet it is about 30 pages long. I got a copy from my local dodge boys. One of the techs went over the whole story on the subject with me. You can tell what side it was on by looking at the hub. You will see wear spots from the rim on the side it was not on. The side it was on will have wear marks that will be a tell tail that there was something else there, other than the rim against the hub.

Right side

My 97 2500 4x4 came with one on the right side. My dealer said it was a factory #@%* up fixer. my old power wagon rim's draged on the left side caliper(no spacer)when i tried to run them. 97 4x4 x-cab bank's pow pac dunwrong tran's
