i was told today that rancho hasn't designed the frount shock for the 03 4x4 stock height. they have a shock for the 2" lift and a rear shock for the stock height. has anyone tried to use a rancho on the front of their truck. if so what is the model number... my part suplier all seasons rv can sell me the shocks for the back @ 82. ?? dollars per thats aproximatly 10 bucks lower than anyone else...

this is from the FAQ section

Q. What are the part numbers for RS9000X shocks for the 3rd Gen Ram 4x4?

A. Front stock height is 99221. If you are running the Kelderman front air-ride (0-4"), it is 99113. Rear stock height is 99269.

With all due respect, Bilstein's blow anything Rancho makes out of the water. Ask the T-Rex guys if you think I'm BS'ng.

Greg,

Rancho is the most clueless company there is when it comes to thier application guides. I e-mailed them with the correct part numbers months ago and they still tell people they don't have a shock for that application. Use the 99221's.

KHogan,

I believe the Bilstein's to be a good shock, and probably slightly superior to the Rancho's EXCEPT it you are using them for sway control. Nobody has ever been able to show me a shock (mega $ shocks excluded) that has more rebound dampening than a Rancho RS9000X on level 9 and that is why I use them on my truck for my heavy slide-in camper.

i want to hear more about the bilsteins are they adjustable? i drive on cement highways and the freeway hop can really give you a full body massage especially empty. i also use a camper and boy does it sway. i need adjustablility not some awsome 4 wheels off the grownd baja 1000 super shock.

greg

camper weighs 3100# empty!

Greg,

Nice looking rig Greg!

I have the Ranchos on my truck. They made the truck/camper combo a whole lot more enjoyable to drive.

When the trucks empty I set the fronts on 3 and rears on 1. A lot nicer ride.

My Lance is just about 3000#'s empty.

Used the part #'s in the FAQ.

Slinse,

I ordered my shocks from an auto parts store I found with the dealer locater on the GoRancho web site. The store was only 40 miles from me.

If I remember right, they were just under 80 bucks a shock. Rancho had a buy 3 get the 4th free offer going on when I ordered them. I think the offer ran the end of April though. :(

Greg,

Ck out T-Rex's and/or Bilstein's website for more info. The conventional non-remote reservoir HD Bilstein gas shocks are not adjustable. There are different Bilsteins for different applications and some are adjustable in every way, if memory serves.

Lots of places sell them. Some are cheaper than others. I got mine from Summit. 4 Wheel Parts usually has good prices on them, too (often with free shipping). Find the cheapest, and then wait until Rancho has the buy 4 for the proce of three. Then get them. When Rancho has this going, the price applies to all the dealers, too.

i sent an e-mail to trex about the billstiens they have yet to answer.

a far as southern california goes i have bought ranchos from 4 wheel parts wholesalers for the rear of the truck for 89 bucks plus tax. i was able to talk them down from from 93 bucks. then i talked to my lance dealer and he was able to get a set for my brothers gasser for 82 bucks plus tax.

Greg:

I had the non-adjustable Bilstein HD Gas Shocks on my 2nd Gen. and they vastly improved the ride and handling. No, it didn't turn it into a Cadoo, but it got rid of the rollercoster feel over the bumps, tamed (but didn't eliminate) the SWB bump steer and body roll. I learned about them from my experience with BMW's and my buddy used them on his 1st Gen Durango with similar results as well. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anybody, truck or car application. I think they were around $130 per axle from OK Tire and 4WD in Stewartsville, NJ (Excellent to deal with those guys). I'm interested in Bilsteins and or T-Rex's suspension systems for my new '04. 5 as I am not impressed with the stock suspension. I drive the thing (it's my daily driver) about 100mi per day, it rarely, if ever, goes off road, and will see occasional toy towing duty. As such, I'm looking for the best highway ride and handling I can get. BTW, same buddy had the Rancho's with BFG A/T TA's on his (prev. Gen) '97 F-350 Crew Cab LWB SRW Powerstroke and it made the buckboard ride those things are notorious for even worse. If he keeps it long enough, his current Gen '01 F-350 Powerstroke Crew Cab LWB Dually will get the Bilsteins. If not, he's already made-up his mind to get a 3rd Gen Dodge Cummins Dually after driving a Bud's '03 HO and my '04. 5 600.

thanks for the info i will look into the billstiens. over all i love the idea of adjustablity over one size fits all. i enjoy trying diffrent tire/shock/airbag combinations to make the abosolut best ride in the concrete rolocoster. so far the smothest ride is rancho @ setting 2 air bag at 20 psi (removed the overload and 2nd longest leaf springs) @70 mph empty the hum jump is livable. the funnist is rancho at level 7 airbag 10 psi 60 mph empy. at those settings the truck soaks up the bumps like it should it's just to slow... . i wan't to see if frount shocks will help

thanks guys
